Tungsten Trioxide / Iron Composite Photocatalyst

As far as today's world is concerned, photocatalysis is undoubtedly one of the most promising technologies. It shows the application of solar energy in many aspects, such as photolysis of water to obtain hydrogen energy, treatment of polluted water and so on.

In recent years, due to the band gap Nano-WO3 has a smaller and rapid development. However, the photocatalytic activity of pure WO3 is very low, and the O2 can not be reduced by a single electron method. Two people with composite semiconductor on different band gap in the understanding of the composite photocatalyst with tungsten oxide based has been developed. For example, researchers found that the composite photocatalyst with tungsten oxide as core and iron oxide coated layer can effectively degrade the methyl orange of dye wastewater.

Preparation of tungsten trioxide / iron composite photocatalyst as follows:

The 0.450g WO3 samples were collected and added to the beaker with 500mL distilled water under severe stirring. Then the 11.7wt%Fe2O/ WO3 with mass concentration of 3.00g L-1100mL was added, and the beaker was placed on the magnetic stirrer set at 50 degrees, heated and stirred for 2h. The resulting product was centrifuged, washed several times after the product was placed in an oven at 80 ℃ drying overnight, and then after each sample was placed in a muffle furnace (temperature of 400 ℃) in 4h, the final composite photocatalyst finished.

Research shows that the WO3 / Fe composite photocatalyst under visible light irradiation for 1h, the degradation rate of methyl orange can reach above 70%; At the same time, the photocatalyst has a stable performance and can be reused, and the preparation method is simple.
