Tungsten alloy swaging rod is made of tungsten alloy rod through calcinations. The normal method used in the processing are extruding, forging and sintering. After calcinations, tungsten alloy swaging rod has higher ductility, toughness and tensile strength than tungsten alloy rod, so it can be used for a longer time. Tungsten alloy swaging rod has been widely used by HQ-9.

The HQ-9  is China’s new generation medium- to long-range, active radar homing air defence missile.

The land-based HQ-9 system has an anti-radiation variant, known as the FT-2000 for export. The export designation for air defense version is FD-2000 (with FD stands for Fang Dun, meaning defensive shield), and its developer China National Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CPMIEC) first made it public at the Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition held at Cape Town in March 2009. In September 2013 the HQ-9 submitted by CPMIEC won Turkey's T-LORAMIDS program to co-produce 12 long range air defense systems.

With the high hardness and high density of tungsten alloy swaging rod, HQ-9 has good antiaircraft performance. It can be also used to defense cruise missile.

CBU-97 used tungsten alloy swaging rod as its kinetic energy penetrator to destroy armor vehicle.

The CBU-97 Sensor Fuzed Weapon is a United States Air Force 450-kilogram (1,000 lb)-class non-guided (freefall) Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU). It was developed and produced by Textron Defense Systems. The CBU-97 in conjunction with the Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser guidance tail kit, which converts it to a precision-guided weapon, is designated CBU-105.

The CBU-97 consists of an SUU-66/B tactical munition dispenser that contains 10 BLU-108 submunitions. Each submunition contains four hockey-puck-shaped sensor-fused projectiles called Skeets. These detect target vehicles, such as tanks, armored personnel carriers, trucks and other support vehicles, and fire a kinetic energy penetrator downwards at them.

With the high density and hardness of tungsten alloy swaging rod, CBU-97 can penetrate armor easily.

GBU-10 is taking advantage of high density, high hardness and elongation of tungsten alloy swaging rod.

GBU-10 is based on the Mk 84 based on the Mk 84 general-purpose bomb, but with laser seeker and wings for guidance. Introduced into service c. 1976. Used by USAF, US Navy, US Marine Corps, RAAF and various NATO air forces.

The GBU-10 has been built in more than a half-dozen variants with different wing and fuse combinations. Weight depends on the specific configuration, ranging from 2,055 lb (934 kg) to 2,103 lb (956 kg).

GBU-10 takes advantage of characteristics of tungsten alloy swaging rod to destroy high-value targets.

The CBU-87 is a cluster bomb used by the United States Air Force, developed by Aerojet General/Honeywell and introduced in 1986 to replace the earlier cluster bombs used in the Vietnam War. CBU stands for Cluster Bomb Unit. When the CBU-87 is used in conjunction with the Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser (WCMD) guidance tail kit, it becomes a precision-guided weapon, designated CBU-103.
