Tungsten steel is a common material used for wedding bands and other rings. You may have to cut the metal to remove the ring because of a hand injury or swelling that prevents the ring from sliding off. If you end up in the emergency room because of the injury, allow the medical professionals to remove the tungsten steel for you. Otherwise, you can do it yourself as long as you use extreme caution.

Instructions

Turn the screw on the bottom of the locking pliers to open the jaws wide enough to put the tungsten steel ring inside.

Put the ring inside the pliers and clamp the jaws closed.

Remove the pliers and turn the screw 1/4 turn so the jaws will clamp tighter over the tungsten steel. Close the jaws around the ring.

Take the jaws off the ring and tighten the locking pliers another 1/4 turn. Put the jaws back around the ring and close them.

Continue adjusting the jaws using 1/4 turns. Eventually, the jaws will clamp tightly enough around the metal that it will break.

Tips & Warnings
Cutting the tungsten steel yourself should be a last resort, only when a trained professional isn't available.

A deuterium tungsten bulb is a light source that produces a narrow range of light by creating an electrical arc, while tungsten is the material used to create the filament.

Parts of the Bulb
A deuterium tungsten bulb is made of a sealed glass casing that houses a tungsten filament. This acts as a cathode and a grounding anode to which electrical current from the filament arcs. It is filled with deuterium gas which insures long life of the filament and uniform light output. The bulb may also contain an aperture through which the electrical arc flows from the tungsten filament to the anode, in order to control the projection of the resulting light. Similar to flood lights, many bulbs also use a reflective nickel surface on the interior of the glass to project as much light outwards as possible.

Deuterium Bulb Performance
A typical deuterium tungsten bulb is highly efficient, creating roughly 100 W of output with 300 milliamp current. The bulb will create a brightly visible output while most energy is released in the UV spectrum. For this reason, such bulbs are most often used in scientific applications (where UV light is desirable) and not commercial lighting.

Warnings
While neither tungsten nor deuterium pose a significant toxicity risk, the UV light a D2 tungsten bulb creates is highly energetic and may cause injury. Prolonged exposure to this light by the skin may result in sunburn symptoms, and any exposure to it by the eye poses a serious risk of retinal damage. Furthermore, many materials may discolor or deteriorate from exposure to such powerful UV light.
