Molybdenum Market Update - April 22, 2025

Molybdenum market update on April 22, 2025

The domestic molybdenum market in China continues to show an overall upward trend. Amid intertwined bullish and bearish factors, the consumer market is gradually shifting from a buyer's market to a seller's market, primarily reflected in slight price increases for most products and a relatively fast growth in orders.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, transaction prices are around 3,290 yuan/ton-degree. Influenced by increased inquiries from downstream buyers and strong production support, suppliers are reluctant to sell and exhibit a strong bullish sentiment, with little willingness to offer discounts. In the ferromolybdenum market, trading activity is relatively high, largely due to the promising development prospects of downstream industries such as new energy vehicles and aerospace, as well as the current low price levels of ferromolybdenum, which encourage many downstream users to enter the market. In the molybdenum chemicals and products market, a cautious wait-and-see atmosphere persists. With end customers mostly maintaining just-in-time purchasing, some suppliers have raised their quotes due to the rising cost of raw materials.

News update: According to price monitoring data from the Jiangxi steel market and Fuzhou Trade Plaza steel market, in March, the sales prices of all 44 monitored steel varieties showed a decline, with no increases or stability. The average sales prices of wire rods (high-line 6.5, HPB300 and high-line 8, HPB300) were 3,587.50 yuan/ton and 3,506.25 yuan/ton, respectively, down 3.85% and 3.28% month-on-month, and down 9.81% and 10.73% year-on-year. The average sales price of rebar (φ12mm HRB400E) was 3,386.25 yuan/ton, down 3.08% month-on-month and 9.58% year-on-year.
