According to the South China Morning Post, in the first half of 2025, Brazil’s rare earth exports to China doubled in volume, and China’s rare earth imports surged to a historical high. The report states that Brazil’s rare earth export value to China reached $6.7 million, three times that of the same period in 2024. According to Global Times, data released by the General Administration of Customs on the 20th shows that in June, China, the world’s largest producer of rare earth magnets, saw its exports to the United States surge to 352.8 tons, a 660% increase from May. Recently, the International Mineralogical Association’s Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (IMA-CNMNC) unanimously approved a new mineral, “Huanghoite-(Nd),” discovered and submitted by a joint research team from China University of Geosciences and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Geological Survey Institute, with the approval number IMA No. 2025-014. The discovery of Huanghoite-(Nd) is one of the innovative outcomes of the comprehensive budget project of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Natural Resources Department, titled “Study on the Distribution Patterns and Occurrence Regularities of Rare Earth Elements in the Bayan Obo Deposit.” The research team, in collaboration with researchers from Jiangxi University of Applied Science and the Beijing Research Institute of Uranium Geology, named and submitted the mineral for approval.
