MAPATS is a laser-beam riding anti-tank guided missile developed by Israel Military Industries as a possible successor to US wire-guided BGM-71 TOW.
MAPATS is capable of day and night operation, while the gunner has to direct his laser designator on the target until the missile impacts. First revealed in 1984, it has no trailing wire; so it can be fired over water at naval targets or from sea to land, unlike wire-guided ATGMs. The launcher has an elevation capacity up to +30°, so MAPATS can be used in the anti-helicopter role. Externally, MAPATS is very similar in appearance to the TOW 2.

How to Repair Gold Plating

While pure gold is forever, gold plating often fades with the passage of time. Thankfully, items that are gold plated can often be repaired and restored to their former glory. While you may not always be able to restore them to look as good as new, you will be able to make the gold plated items look much better than they did before restoration.
1.Clean the item. Prepare the surface and remove all contaminants that could cause problems later. Use a gentle hand soap and a tooth brush to remove any dirt and grime. Pat dry using a paper towel, then let the item air dray completely to make sure that the surfaces, including any crevices, are free of moisture.
2.Buff the surface with a jeweler's cloth. Sometimes, this is all that is needed to restore a uniform luster to the surface and to dull down the high points where the underlying metal shows through the gold finish. Jeweler's cloths are often made to wipe tarnish off of silver, but they are also effective on gold plated items.
3.Use a gold plating kit. If cleaning and buffing did not provide a satisfactory result, there are kits available that are aimed at helping people restore gold plated items.
For immersion gold plating kits, put the item that needs plating repair in a small basket, which comes in the kit. Place the basket on an activator disc. Next, you place the basket and activator disc into a pre-heated gold solution (which comes in the kit as well).
After several seconds, rinse the object in water, then buff it with a polishing cloth. It creates a gold bond in seconds, which serves as an easy fix.

How to Polish Gold Plating

Gold plating is a thin layer of gold plated on the surface of another metal. Gold plating offers an expensive-looking finish that is lustrous but also low cost. A few items made with gold plating are musical instruments and jewelry. Gold plating is resistant to tarnishing, but it is also fragile because the layer of gold is so thin. Polishing gold plating requires a gentle hand.
1.Dampen a clean cotton cloth with water.
2.Wipe the gold plating with the cloth to remove the dirt and oils from the surface. After cleaning the gold plating, the item may have a more lustrous appearance because the dirt dulled the sheen. In many cases, simply wiping is enough to get the metal to shine again.
3.Polish the gold plating with a polishing cloth made for gold. Gently rub the gold plating to restore the shine. Too much pressure will remove the thin layer of gold.

The LAHAT (Laser Homing Attack or Laser Homing Anti-Tank, also a Hebrew word for incandescence) is a third generation semi-active laser homing low-weight anti-tank guided missile developed since 1992 and manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries. It was designed primarily to be fired by Merkava tanks' 105 mm and 120 mm tank guns, though it matches all types of 105 mm and 120 mm guns, including low recoil guns and low-weight guns of military armoured cars. It is also suitable for patrol ships, possibly modified for 105–106 mm recoilless rifles, UAVs, HMMWVs, and SPAAGs. Unlike other tank rounds, LAHAT does not need a tank gun for operation.

How to Recognize Gold Plating

Many necklaces, rings and other items appear to be made of solid gold, but these items may only be gold plated. Discoloration, density and magnetism all provide clues that an item could be plated.
Skin Discoloration
Skin discoloration occurs when friction builds between the skin and the jewelry item. Real gold should not cause this discoloration, but gold plating covering a base metal, such as copper or nickel, sometimes wears through, and the other, less expensive base metal could cause skin discoloration.
Item Discoloration
The gold plated item itself sometimes discolors. If the gold depositing is laid too thinly over the base metal, the plating becomes porous, allowing the base metal to migrate through the pores and create a discoloring compound on the plating's surface.
Density
Gold density averages about 19.3 grams/mL. If the density of the piece in question varies too greatly from this measurement, the gold may only be plating. Weigh the piece in question against a known gold piece, or measure the displacement of water when the piece is submerged.
Magnetism
Gold does not attract magnets. If the piece in question proves to be magnetic, gold plating might be covering a magnetic base metal.

The MGM-166 LOSAT (Line-of-Sight Anti-Tank) was a U.S. surface-to-surface missile system designed by Lockheed Martin (originally Vought) to defeat tanks and other individual targets.
