Tungsten export market participants stated that although foreign demand doesn’t increase significantly, the export price of tungsten products remains strong, because of the rising of Chinese domestic prices.

A major tungsten exporter is optimistic about the tungsten market, “Tender cases in European market are increasing. Foreign consumers turn to directly purchase from Chinese suppliers when failing to purchase sufficient goods in Rotterdam.”

The quotation of Chinese domestic APT reaches to between 197,000 and 198,000 yuan, meanwhile, most exporters raise the export quotation to between 400 to 405 dollars per ton. The tight supply of tungsten concentrates leads to their rising tendency. Consequently, the export price of APT will rise recently.

The export quotas of four kinds of tungsten products in China are totaling 11,955 tons in the first half of 2010, increasing nearly 10 percent compared to those in 2009.

In spite of the significant increase in quotas, the price of tungsten remains high. A Western supplier said, “The pricing power is at the disposal of Chinese sellers. I think the price will raise further.” He thought the high price of tungsten was the reason for China to increase export quotas. “The price of tungsten kept at 200 dollars per ton last year. They won’t increase quotas as such if the price is not so high. They are well-prepared.”

Another factor affecting American buyers is the returning of DLA Supply Team. DLA has stopped participating in the market since May, 2010, worsening the tungsten supply situation. But it is predicted to resume sales of tungsten products as early as in February. DLA is prudent in its sale plans, “Selling inventory of goods can’t fundamentally meet goods demand. Strategic goods have been more and more important.”

The price of tungsten this year will stay above 40 thousand dollars per ton,according to Pierre Monet, the Ceo of Malaga Inc, a tungsten manufacturer, in an interview in Tronto.

It is said that the output of tungsten products of Pasto Bueno, a factory of Malaga in Peru, accounts for about 10 percent of the global output. The company plans to increase the tungsten processing capacity from 350 tons to 500 tons per day. Besides, it produces the volume of one container of tungsten for its consumers.

Based on the European price data from Metal Bulletin, APT, the trading form of tungsten, have risen by 32 percent to 440 dollars per ton last year. Besides, the price of tungsten applying to drills, industrial tools and cellphones has risen 6 times since 2003.

China tungsten concentrate prices move up further this week. Many downstream customers expressed that it is hard to purchase materials in the spot market.

A  tungsten concentrate factory based in South China noted that the tungsten concentrate market keeps on moving up now. He said that the tungsten concentrate prices will increase further.

China  tungsten electrode market is quiet as the downstream customers are inactive in making deals.

Although the raw materials prices move up, tungsten electrode prices are stable tentatively now. A tungsten electrode factory said that they have  an output of around 10 tons per month, noted that they mainly dealt with the old customers.

Tungsten carbide powder market continues to be quiet now as many downstream customers are inactive in purchase in large quantities.

Owing to the increasing raw materials prices, the tungsten carbide powder prices increase slightly. But the transaction prices move up slowly.  A tungsten carbide powder factory said that  they  have an output of around 200 tons per month.

Tungsten Mining Managing Director, Paul Berndt, said the excellent high-grade results received from the drilling confirms the Company’s belief in the Kilba Project and justify its focus on the rapid evaluation and development of the Kilba Project.

“To this end the Company has engaged CSA Global to model mineralisation present at Zone 11 with the objective of producing a JORC-compliant Resource by May,” Mr Berndt said. “We are on target to create significant project value at Kilba, by completing a feasibility study within a year." The final analytical results have been received from 46 of the 59 holes drilled in 2013, confirming the high-grade nature of coarse grained scheelite mineralisation present.

Tungsten Mining NL  reported that drilling continues to intersect significant high-grade tungsten mineralisation at the Kilba Project in the Gascoyne Region of Western Australia. To date the Company has drilled 24 diamond holes and 43 reverse circulation (RC) holes for a total of 7116 metres.

Tungsten Mining NL  commenced drilling in November 2012 to confirm the presence of high-grade tungsten mineralisation at the Kilba Project indicated by historic drilling completed by Union Carbide Corporation in the 1970s/1980s. Current drilling is targeting Zone 11 located on the 100% owned and granted Mining Lease 08/314 (Figure 1). 

Exploration has completed an 80 metre by 40 metre spaced drill pattern over the main 900 metres of outcropping mineralisation at Zone 11. Broader spaced drilling has also tested strike extensions on 80 to 160 metre spaced sections, for a further 300 metres.
