According to Russian Military Industrial Complex News reported on February 25, 2013,Chinese media disclosed that Chinese government has officially approved plan of nuclear-powered ships manufacture project. The first phase ready is to develop a new generation of compact nuclear reactors within the framework of Project 863 and plan to be used in the aircraft carriers, strategic submarines, destroyers and cargo ships in the future. If the report is true, the refractory metal market, especially tungsten price, tungsten alloy price, molybdenum price and rare earth price will continue rising for a long time in the future.
February 22, 2013, the National Bureau of Statistics of China announced the 2012 National Economic and Social Development Statistics Report, and the part of “Education, Science, Technology and Culture” in Chapter 9 is said that in the high-tech field ,China had finished the work of scientific researches and experimental designations within the framework of Project 863, total 1165 last year. However, the report did not disclose other details of Project 863.
It is reported that Chinese aircraft carrier manufacture program is being implemented at present and it is divided into two phases. The first phase of the plan is to build four aircrafts at most, and two of which will be delivered to Liberation Army Navy in 2015-2016. Then set up carrier battle groups which will be based on these aircraft carrier aircraft in 2020. The displacement of new aircraft carrier is 5-5.5 million tons which are manufactured in the first phase, and they will not be equipped with any nuclear power plant. China has started to manufacture the first ship domestic carrier in July, 2011 and now it is still under manufacturing in Changxing Island shipyard which is located in Yangtze Delta River. The second stage requires to manufacture two aircraft carriers at least whose displacement is 65,000 tons and they will have nuclear reactors installation. According to preliminary estimates, this group of nuclear-powered aircraft carrier will be equipped with Liberation Army Navy after 2020. It is without restriction in range and endurance which is the main advantage of nuclear-powered ship.

Domestic tungsten ore market conditions, the market was stable and slightly tired. Currently, the market price of the mainstream is still around 116,000-119,000 yuan / ton, the overall is relatively stable. Because of the end demand downturn influence all the time, part of the middle and lower reaches of corporate save a wait-and-see mentality in short-term
Hunan businessmen said, "high offer still virtual, purchasing enthusiasm of the upstream and downstream enterprises have an impact, that there is no market price situation agai." Recent tungsten ore market has stabilized, high-priced resources are down slightly, the price of tungsten ore further narrow the range or slightly on the exploration of the transaction price signs. Macroeconomic news: March liquidity rebounded significantly, the credit trend into monetary policy vane; the RMB devaluation of the dollar central parity yesterday by 50 basis points; Greek GDP contracted by 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The need for a more energy-conscious society in relation to the efficient production and consumption of energy has intensified in past years and will become increasingly important for that society in the future. Currently, worldwide energy use is growing much faster than supply can match. The efficiency of conventional technologies must be improved in order to reduce losses in transmission and distribution of energy, and new strategies and technologies must be developed for “doing more, using less”.
Whatever form such solutions may take in the future, it may be expected that tungsten-based materials and components will play their positive part in meeting these challenges. Tungsten products have contributed in the past in this way, both as functional materials and advanced tools with outstanding properties, and this contribution will not diminish in the near future.
Current discussions on global warming, and the conclusion that anthropogenic greenhouse gases are responsible for most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the twentieth century, have brought calls for reductions in emissions which will demand a more conscientious handling of fossil energy worldwide. The search for alternatives will be intensified, as coal, oil and natural gas reserves become depleted and the need to use existing natural and renewable resources steadily increases.
There is a great opportunity for tungsten-containing products which have strategic importance in the field of fossil energy production, fossil energy or renewable power generation, power transmission and power distribution, because of their outstanding properties.

In the last two decades, with assistance and advice from various multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors, Mongolia has begun reforms to move from a centrally planned economy towards one with market characteristics. At the same time, geological surveys have shown it to hold vast reserves of coal, copper, gold, silver, uranium, molybdenum, iron, tin, nickel, zinc, tungsten, phosphates, fluorspar and some oil. The government of Mongolia recognises both that exploitation of its mineral wealth is essential if the economy is to grow and that it must establish a sustainable way forward if it is to avoid the problems that have affected several other resource rich developing countries in the past.
It has a strong vision of how the country should be developed, with an aim to establish major and long-lasting opportunities for Mongolia. The mining operations will need to meet all the environmental regulations and standards, so as to limit adverse impact on air quality, loss of water supplies and destruction of the fragile ecosystem. The government has declared that it will use the proceeds from mining activities to develop essential services. These need to include education and health care, as well as creating capable workers with equal access to opportunities to fill jobs in the mining and construction sectors. This will require a longer-term investment culture, with the prospect that the country can gain added value from its coal and other resources that will fulfill a crucial and beneficial role in the country’s overall development.

Research on tungsten has been conducted by various international organisations. These studies indicate that tungsten has a low potential to cause harm to animals and humans at environmentally relevant concentrations. This means that tungsten is a relatively benign metal at the concentrations that humans, animals, and plants may encounter in natural and urban environments. As with all metals, appropriate care must be exercised when using tungsten and tungsten substances. Since tungsten products are very hard and abrasion resistant, they can be used safely by consumers since there is very limited potential for tungsten exposure.
Pollution during hardmetal production is collected by filter devices and afterwards recycled. All other tungsten losses can be kept to a minimum and this situation will further improve in the future due to economic forces.
Pollution through by-products generated during tungsten production, such as ammonia, sodium sulphate, etc, will decline. They will be recycled, not only for economic reasons but also due to more rigid governmental regulations (both national and international) all over the world. Gangue materials and tailings dumped in a proper way do not disturb nature.
Tungsten today helps in several ways to improve the environment: 1.as a catalyst to clean exhaust fumes or products from toxic compounds (dioxins, nitrogen oxides or aromatics) 2.in saving fossil fuels (through energy saving devices) 3.as a substitute for toxic lead
