SPECT tungsten alloy collimator is a new type of lead-free collimator, and is made of high quality tungsten-based alloy - a new type of environmentally friendly shielding material with good absorption properties for gamma rays (due to its own high density). It means that tungsten alloy collimator is used in nuclear medicine imaging. But do you know why SPECT is also known as gamma camera?

In SPECT, radiation source used is mainly Tc99m (140 keV γ-rays), hence the name gamma camera.
Main features of SPECT operation: Capable of withstanding γ-ray detection rates up to tens to thousands events per second; Reject γ-rays scattered in the body → no useful spatial information; As high sensitivity as possible → high quality images within clinically acceptable imaging time. And all these features are inseparable from the role of tungsten alloy collimator. In a word, SPECT tungsten alloy collimator can make gamma rays travelling in certain directions selected.
SPECT is the short for Single-photon Emission Computed Tomography.
