W18O49 Nanorod Applied for Heat Insulation Coating

W18O49 nanorod, or violet tungsten oxide, may show strong absorption of NIR light and high transmittance in the visible region so that it is often applied to prepare heat insulation coating. And such coating is promising in building energy efficiency. Well, do you know how to synthesize W18O49 nanorod? Some experts have prepared W18O49 nanorod via ammonium tungsten oxide and studied its interesting optical properties.

The experts synthesized W18O49 nanorods by pyrolyzing (NH4)xWO3+x/2 nanorods precursors in a reductive atmosphere of H2 (5 vol%)/N2 at 500 °C for 1 h. Wherein, pyrolyzing (NH4)xWO3+x/2 nanorods precursors were prepared by a hydrothermal reaction using sulfate as a structure-directing agent. And the simulated experiment revealed that excellent heat insulating performance can be realized by applying a 70% visible light transparent W18O49 coating on a quartz glass. Meanwhile, the W18O49 nanorods also showed strong absorption of NIR light and instantaneous conversion of photoenergy to heat.
