Cesium tungsten bronze can be prepared into highly transparent heat insulation coating for applying to the smart window glass, thereby reducing room temperature and saving energy. Wherein, the cesium tungsten bronze can be prepared via hydrothermal method. For example, the experts synthesized single-crystalline cesium tungsten bronze (CsxWO3) nanorods with typical diameters of 10–200 nm and lengths of several micrometers via hydrothermal synthesis.

According to the experts, the as-prepared CsxWO3 nanorods crystallized in a hexagonal structure and elongated along the (001) direction. And it is obvious that the existence of tunnel Cs+ ions in the structure, as confirmed also by the vibrational spectroscopic study. The as-prepared cesium tungsten bronze nanorods exhibited a direct-allowed electronic transition, which allows a visible-light-driven photochromism related to photogenerated carriers and a proton–electron double injection process. The proposed photochromism was discussed in detail by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The involved local structural evolutions such as water decomposition and ion intercalation during the photochromic process were identified.
