Electrochromic properties of MoO3 doped WO3 electrochromic film can be affected by the stability of tungstic acid sol. That is to say, a stable tungstic acid sol is suitable to be used as a precursor spin coating liquid for electrochromic materials. But is there any theory that can explain the stabilization process of tungstic acid sol system?

Experts say that the sol-stabilization theory (DLVO theory) based on the diffusion double layer model can well explain the stabilization process of tungstic acid sol system. According to DLVO theory, when the charged colloidal particles are close to each other, the diffusion layer overlaps to generate electrostatic repulsion. At the same time, there is also the attractive force of long-range van der Waals force, which is the sum of all molecular gravitational forces in the colloidal particles. The repulsive potential energy and the suction potential energy between the colloidal particles determine the total potential energy of the system. When the repulsive repulsion energy is greater than the suction potential energy and is sufficient to prevent the particles from sticking due to Brownian motion, the colloid is in a relatively stable state. Conversely, if the suction potential energy can be greater than the repulsive potential energy, the particles will collide with each other to cause coagulation. At this time, you can adjust repulsive potential energy and suction potential energy to change the stability of colloid. The potential energy is affected by the adsorption layer. When the formation of the adsorption layer reduces the suction potential energy or the repulsion potential energy, or both, the system is stabilized.
