The self-seeded hydrothermal method removes the dependence of the hydrothermal growth of the tungsten trioxide electrochromic film on the seed layer. And it eliminates the electron blocking of the thin film dense seed layer prepared by the self-seeded hydrothermal method. Also, it improves the electron transport speed and electron transport efficiency. Therefore, the electrochromic film prepared by the self-seeded hydrothermal method exhibits a faster response speed, a larger light modulation range, and a higher coloring efficiency without affecting cycle stability when it is compared with the film prepared by crystal-seed-assisted hydrothermal method. The light modulation range is increased by 26% at ±0.5V, the coloring time is shortened by 27%, and the coloring efficiency is 126cm2/C.
