History
While Tungsten Carbide has been used in tools since developed in Germany in 1922, Tungsten rings have become popular additions to the jewelry industry only recently. Its primary application remains in the mechanical industry, although it gaining popularity as durable and attractive jewelry.

Features
Tungsten is a hard and dense metal that is mined from Wolframite ore. It has the highest melting point of all metals at 6,100 degrees F and is very hard when combined with a carbon alloy.

Identification
Tungsten rings are light grey, the color of steel. They are very difficult to scratch or damage and retain their shine and polish much longer than other metals.

Significance
According to Tungsten World, tungsten rings make popular men's wedding rings. They can be plain and smooth, faceted, or inlaid with a band of gold.

Considerations
Tungsten is so hard when bonded with carbon that, according to Eternal Tungsten, the military uses tungsten for armor piercing ammunition. Tungsten World reports that tungsten is 10 times harder than gold, 4 times harder than titanium, and measures between 8 and 9 on the Mohs hardness scale.
