Tungsten Reserve in Far East Ranks First in Russia

The tungsten reserve in Far East region rates first place in Russia, the country and its Far Eastern region (RFE) possess large amounts of mineral wealth, comparable to that of China, USA, Australia, Canada, and other major mineral producing countries.

The RFE is a region in North Asia that includes the Russian part of the Far East. It is the largest and least populated federal district in Russian eight major federal districts with the lowest utilization of mineral resources and the largest resource potential. The Far Eastern Federal District shares land borders with Mongolia, the People's Republic of China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to its south.

RFE is rich in mineral resources and shares 30% of Russia's mineral raw materials, including gold, silver, uranium, tungsten, mercury, antimony, germanium, fluorite, and helium ore. They are ranking first place in the country respectively, and most of the minerals account for more than half of the country's total reserves.

According to the China Geological Survey, the RFE is abundant of various mineral resources. Among them, minerals such as brucite, boron ore, and tin, account for more than 90% of the country's total, in which 40 to 90% contain adamas, antimony, uranium, gold, silver, and tungsten. Other important minerals are fluorite, lead, copper, iron ore, and zinc, as well as oil and natural gas. 9 types of these minerals, such as oil, natural gas, tin, antimony, gold, tungsten, fluorite, copper, and iron ore have been listed in China's 24 strategic minerals catalogs.

The Northeast continent of China is adjacent to the Far East and has the strong industrial production capacity and rich experience in mineral exploration. The strategic cooperation between China and Russia in mineral resources development is conducive to reducing the risk of mineral resources import in China, protecting domestic mineral resources and ecological environment, and helping the revitalization of the Northeast of China.

According to statistics, tungsten (W03) reserves are total of 462,600 tons in the RFE, share the substantial portions - 31.45% of Russia's total, half of them are distributed in the Primorsky Territory. The reserves are assessed to 1.12 million tons in the Far East, accounting for 60% of the country's total predicted resources. The potential areas are mainly distributed in the Primorsky Krai and the Amur region.
