Short-term Tungsten Powder Price Will Be in Upward Trend

Analysis of latest tungsten market in China from Chinatungsten Online: Domestic tungsten market starts to become active from the middle of November. With the decreasing of cheap resources, enquiry from downstream enterprises increases and manufacturers are reluctant to sell for higher prices. The price of raw materials is now the focus of the market.

Quotation for tungsten products continues to increase. Wolframite concentrate quotes between $16,589 per tonne and $16,889 per tonne, seeing average price rise $155 per tonne; scheelite concentrate quotes between $16,279 per tonne and $16,589 per tonne, seeing average price rise $155 per tonne; APT quotes between $289 per mtu and $292 per mtu, up $3.5 per mtu; medium particle tungsten carbide quotes between $39.50 per kilogram and $40.30 per kilogram, up $0.3 per kilogram.

Tungsten concentrate quote is firm supported by tight supply, but it is hard to make a deal at high level price. In the market, 65% wolframite concentrate that quotes below $16,279 per tonne is difficult to conclude businesses. The quotation from buyers and enquiry from downstream enterprises are different, thus raw materials have price but in sales in the tungsten concentrate market.

As most mines are optimistic about the tungsten market, low price of raw materials are not available now. Supported by production costs and increasing enquiry of downstream manufacturers, most APT manufacturers raise their quotation. Considering the weakness in orders and productions, quotation for APT stops.

In the tungsten powder market, though the need for alloy products is not improved, raw material manufacturers do not want to sale their products and purchasers can’t get raw materials, but market confidence is enhanced. Tungsten powder price will be in upward trend in the short run. 

Comprehensive analysis: it is hard to get raw materials in the spot market, so major enterprises start to take active methods to purchase them. However, the more active purchasers are, the less transactions will be concluded. Considering the shortage of supply, tungsten price will keep upward trend. Market risks also need to be concerned, especially for market participants who participant only at lower level in the market, they need to be more cautious about price fluctuations.
