Market participants are reporting weak demand for many tungsten products, including tungsten powder and tungsten carbide. Given these conditions, weak prices have softened further. Over the past week, 65-percent grade wolframite prices in China have fallen from the $285 to $290 range to $280 to $287.  The price for ammonium paratungstate grade 88.5 percent in China is in the range of $313 to $317 per metric ton, according to Metal-Pages.

Hazelwood Resources has been active in the market purchasing concentrate for the start up of the ATC ferrotungsten refinery. Terry Butler-Blaxell, managing director, serves as one source of confirmation of the market weakness. Not only did he note that the company has purchased tungsten at more attractive prices than expected, but he also said that upon establishing a reputation as a serious buyer it becomes clear that ample supply is available.

North American Tungsten is pleased to announce the results of the annual and special meeting of the shareholders of the Company held March 22nd, 2013 in Vancouver BC At the meeting the shareholders of the Company:

Elected Ronald Erickson, Kurt Heikkila, Allan Krasnick, Stephen Leahy, Dennis Lindahl, Bryce Porter and Christina Scott to the board of directors until the next annual meeting;

Appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP to be auditor of the Company for the financial year ending September 30, 2013, and authorized the board of directors to fix the remuneration of the auditor;

Approved the Company's stock option plan more fully described in the information circular dated as of February 15, 2013 (available for viewing on SEDAR); 

Approved the extension of the Company's Shareholder Rights Plan for a further two year period more fully described in the information circular dated as of February 15, 2013 (available for viewing on SEDAR).

Two long-standing directors of the Company, Wayne Lenton and Kenneth Collison, did not run for re-election and the Company wishes to thank both of them for their contributions over the years.

Subsequent to the annual and special meeting, the board of directors appointed Kurt Heikkila as the chairman of the board of the Company. The board of directors has requested that the new Chairman undertake enhanced efforts and strategies to substantially improve the production and efficiency outcomes at the Company's CanTung mine.Messrs. Sources in the US mentioned that little-to-no fluctuation has occurred over the past several weeks as the tungsten carbide market has fallen into a stable trend. The only shift seemed to occur early this month when APT prices were forced up, however, with unvaried interest and bigger players not buying with much frequency, the tungsten carbide looks to keep a similar trend into the latter portion of the year. 

Participants also mentioned that China suppliers are adamant about relaying information on possible price hikes, however, players have not seen anything to suggested that figures will be appreciating.

China tungsten concentrate market runs slowly this week. Tungsten concentrate prices are stable tentatively, and the trading volume is still at low level. With the soft demand, the tungsten concentrate prices decreased slightly in the recent two weeks.

Following report dated on Feb. 21, 2013, to the application of tungsten heavy alloy rods for balance shafts of aero engine, China North Industries Group announced recently, with the roar of 36,000 tons of ferrous metals vertical extrusion machine of Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industries Group Company, a high-temperature powder alloy rod came out, which marked a tremendous breakthrough in the extrusion technology applied to powder turbine disk material for aero engine.

                  

Known as the crown of the engine, turbine disk is the most critical core component in aero engine. The high-temperature powder alloy materials are the essential material for manufacturing high-performance, high reliability and long-life advanced aero engine turbine disk. So far, the extrusion technology of aero engine powder turbine disk material had been only mastered by Wyman Gordon Company in U.S. and Abu Dua in France and served for their own aviation industries.

The turbine disk powder material system of aero engine and the powder disk processing technology for engine in China is close to that in Europe and in U.S.. However, due to the equipment limitation, the extruding and cogging technology­­ of large amount of deformation, one of the key technologies in manufacturing the powder disk hasn’t been implemented.
