Tungsten carbide cutting tool regrinding is commonly seen currently. The price for tool regrinding is much less than that of a completely new tool, and it can effectively extend the tool service life. Regrinding is usually conducted in some special or expensive cutting tools. Tools that can be reground include drills, milling cutters, hobs, and so on.

In the drill or milling cutter regrinding process, cutting edge should be ground in order to remove the original coating, and therefore grinding wheel used must be hard enough. The pretreatment towards cutting edge is critical in tungsten carbide cutting tool regrinding, because the geometrical shape of cutting edge must be completely and accurately the same as the original one. Therefore, unreasonable grinding process should be avoided (for example: coarse or dry grinding that may damage cutting edge surface by high temperature).
