Many of the fishing sinkers come into being by pouring hot liquid metal into a mold. The tackle takes the mold’s design when the mold is cold. Sinkers made from lead have been long used by people. But in some fishing areas lead is banned and anglers must use other sinkers, because it is toxic.

An oval shape maintains a groove for holding line and is called bull shot sinker, for making it more snag resistant. Tungsten split shots sinker are often used with live-bait offerings worm suspended below a bobber. They have been favored by thousands of young anglers.
