More and more often we hear about legislation prohibiting lead in certain waters. There is no doubt that lead is a toxic substance. As our society develops, people are begun to concern their heath instead of only money. With the technology update, here are some great alternatives to lead that work excellently.
Firstly, Tin, has long been a popular lead alternative, especially with fly anglers. It is fairly simple to use for folks due to the comparatively low melting point. The bad side to tin is that it is lighter than lead, so what might be a half-ounce lead weight, will be less than a half ounce with tin. However the good side to this is that if lures are bigger, those made with tin will be lighter and easier to cast and work than would be its lead counterpart. But tin is also found in jig heads.
The use of tungsten is a revolution of fishing. Tungsten, unlike tin, is denser than lead. This allows lure makers to build heavier jigs and weights without making the lure too big.
So from above, we can make an obvious conclusion, tungsten is the better lead-alternative than tin.
