Wheeler Back in Front

The weather across the Ozarks was unstable and volatile today – much like the leader board on the third day of the Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Ouachita.

First there was rain. Then sun shows. Then wind. Then another round of storms thrashed the top 20 pros just before check-in.

Names on the leader board swirled about as well. Weights were the lowest of the week, with Bryan Thrift checking in the day’s best weight of 14 pounds, 3 ounces for his biggest move of the tournament from 10th to fourth place. But some, like day-two leader Ramie Colson Jr., endured the dark clouds of not being able to complete a limit, which dropped him to third place.

By day’s end it was Jacob Wheeler who found the sunniest spot atop the leader board, regaining his first-place position from day one with a 14-pound limit, which gives him a three-day total of 41 pounds, 1 ounce and a scant 12-ounce lead over second-place pro Brad Knight.

Interestingly, as Wheeler and Knight battle it out on the final day, their strategies are very different. Wheeler is running a true pattern across the lake. Knight, however, is banking primarily on one area for the win.

From the beginning Wheeler has ascertained that he knows the pace, the technique and the baits to win on Lake Ouachita in August.

His two-part approach is to haunt schoolers in the morning for a few keepers to get his live well wet. Then at about 9 a.m. he hits the bank to gamble on the better quality, yet more inconsistent bream-eating bass. For three days, his plan has worked, except for a small hiccup on day two when he lost three 3-pounders that would have given him a bit more cushion going into the final day.

“I said from the beginning it would take two 15-pound days and two 12- to 13-pound days to win,” Wheeler says. “I feel I’m on that pace. I had the bites yesterday to pad that a little bit, but those bites at least let me know that I’m doing the right thing.”

Today Wheeler started the day with three keepers from the schooling spot, and then he hit the shallows to catch three more off the bank. One of those was close to 4 pounds – the exact kind of kicker Wheeler is counting on to reach the teens and stay on the winning pace.

No matter if he is fishing schoolers or running the bank, Wheeler is doing nearly all his damage on topwater walking baits. During the day he is rotating through a variety of walkers, but his two primary choices are a Storm Arashi Top Walker and an older Reaction Innovations Vixen in a smaller size than the standard Vixen.

“I have one bank that I hit each day because it has produced several of my better fish,” he says. “Other than that I am constantly running new water, fishing fast and staying on the move. I plan to run the exact same program tomorrow: schoolers early and then running the bank the rest of the day.”

Should Wheeler win on Sunday, he would make history as the first two-time winner of the Forrest Wood Cup.

Tungsten fishing sinker is suited this kind of professional games for its high-density and small volume, in the mean time, tungsten fishing sinker is harmless to environment.

Tungsten darts become the most popular darts among professional players, because tungsten darts are made of high-density metal, so they can be smaller than darts with other material. Besides, tungsten darts have delicate knurling, which make them worthy of being collected.

Auckland Darts Masters for Ryder

The DPA Australian Grand Prix leader secured his spot in a third successive PDC World Series of Darts event with the success in the first of four DPNZ Qualifiers being held at the Swanson RSA in Auckland.

Perth-based Ryder followed up a whitewash of Damon Heta - a Sydney Darts Masters qualifier last year - with wins over top New Zealanders Mike Day, Warren Parry and Caldwell in the final three rounds of the qualifier.

The win secures Ryder's place in the inaugural Auckland Darts Masters, which is being held from Friday August 28-Sunday August 30 at the Trusts Arena in Auckland.

The DPNZ Qualifiers continue on Wednesday with two events, with the final qualifying event to take place on Thursday ahead of the main event's first round on Friday night.

As for professional games like Auckland Darts Masters, we recommend tungsten darts. Nowadays, tungsten darts are the most popular darts among professional players. Because they found its value are far more than price. It’s all known that tungsten is a high-density metal, so it makes tungsten darts smaller than other materials (in the same weight).

FANYA – Breaking the Mold on Specialty Metals Trading?

Commodity exchanges have sprung up over time either at the source of the capital in major financial centres (e.g. LME and New York Mercantile Exchange) or at the source of the product traded (e.g. the various spice exchanges in India) or the attempts to launching exchanges in Indonesia and Malaysia dealing in local products such as tin or palm oil.

As is well known the Chinese dominate a number of metals through the production of the raw material and at the same time are important as the end-consumers or processors of the same metals. Thus to some extent it makes sense that the trading of these metals should take place at exchanges within China rather than in some far distant place like Singapore or London. Moreover it would seem the Chinese are also tired of the low value added that the big trading houses bring to the equation. Knowing the end users in a space like Antimony or Rare Earths, for instance, is no rocket science. Everyone knows who they are, so why would one need some slick-suited bankerish type intermediating the transaction when in some cases the product is produced in China and ends up in an industrial application within China?

Bringing Home the Bacon

The issue has been addressed in two ways. Firstly we saw the Hong Kong-backed acquisition of the London Metal Exchange (reminiscent of the old advertisement featuring Victor Kiam saying “I liked the product so much I bought the company”). Secondly the establishment of exchanges within China such as the Shanghai Metals Exchange for bulk products (in competition with the LME and more recently with the appearance of the FANYA Metals Exchange in Yunnan province with a focus upon those specialty metals that China has quite literally “made its own”.

Knight Wins Professional Bass Fishing’s Forrest Wood Cup

Hot Springs, Ark. – Professional angler Brad Knight of Lancing, Tennessee, crossed the stage with a five-bass limit weighing 11 pounds, 7 ounces Sunday to claim the title of Forrest Wood Cup Champion at the Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Ouachita. Knight, with a four-day total of 20 bass for 51-12, won by a 3-pound, 15-ounce margin over Ramie Colson Jr., of Cadiz, Kentucky, and won the $500,000 top award in professional bass fishing’s world championship that featured 50 of the best professional anglers in the world casting for the sport’s largest prize.

“This is unbelievable and it still has not sunk in yet,” said Knight, a seven-year veteran of the FLW(Fishing League Worldwide) Tour who earned the first victory of his career in this championship event. “It is so humbling to add my name to the list of great champions that have won this Cup before. I may never catch another bass again as long as I live, but no matter what happens from here on out, I’ll still be a Forrest Wood Cup champion. To be a part of that club, that is something that nobody can ever take away from me.

“I had such a tough practice,” Knight continued. “We get three days to figure out the lake, and on the second and third day of practice I did not have a single keeper bite. I found an area in the back of Blakely Creek that was the only place that I was confident that I could even get a single bite and that spot turned out to be gold.”

Knight said that the back of the creek had a lot of standing timber and lay downs that he would target each morning with a 6-inch straight-tail worm on a drop-shot rig. As the day progressed, Knight would move out into the main creek and target a deeper creek channel mud flat with buzz bait. Weather conditions changed on Sunday and Knight said that he made a key adjustment, finding success using a homemade balsa squarebill-crankbait.

“The drop-shot rig was the most consistent each day,” said Knight. “The buzz bait was a big player for me on the first day. Then, today, the wind changed directions and was blowing directly into the creek. It dirtied the water up and the fish got up shallow and were active. I pulled out an old square bill plug that I hadn’t caught a fish on in five years and that turned out to be my key bait today.”

“When you win a Tour-level tournament, that is a career-changer and a great feather in your cap,” Knight said. “But, when you win the Forrest Wood Cup is a life-changer. I’ve got a 3-year-old girl who now has college paid for. I can write a check and pay off my house when I get home. The thoughts that are running through my head right now are how I can best provide for my family. This is just a humbling, humbling experience.”

Phil Taylor hits Nine-Dart finish at Coral Sydney Darts Masters

Taylor's perfect leg was the first since the PDC's World Series of Darts was introduced in 2013, and also his 11th in a televised game as he secured another slice of glory to add to his glittering roll of honor.

While players on Australia's domestic circuit, including Kyle Anderson, have achieved nine-dart finishes previously, Taylor's minute of brilliance was the first on TV in the country as he delighted the Qantas Credit Union Arena crowd.

The nine-darter also came as Taylor booked his place in the final of the Sydney Darts Masters, seeing off Wright in fine style to remain on course for a third successive title.

"It's a wonderful achievement and I'm always proud to hit a nine-darter – but I've also got to remember that it's just one leg and it didn't win me the match," said Taylor.

"Peter came back at me after that so I couldn't celebrate for too long, but it's great to have hit another nine-dart finish, especially for it to be the first on TV in Australia."

Despite a Taylor 180 in the opening leg, Wright finished 62 to break and then landed double two to move 2-0 up in a fine start.

The game, though, turned in the next two legs as Wright twice missed the bulls-eye, seeing a potential 4-0 lead disappear as Taylor landed a pair of double top finishes to level the game.

A fourth 180 of the game from Taylor helped him to hit the front as he won leg five on double 12, before taking out 95 and 130 in the next two legs to suddenly pull clear at 5-2.

Taylor then set up a slice of history by opening leg eight with two 180s before finishing 141 with another treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 to complete his perfect leg.

Having celebrated the achievement, Taylor then took out 84 on double six to move 7-2 up, only for Wright to finish 80 on tops to win his first leg in eight and then take out double six and tops once more to reduce the gap to 7-5.

Taylor edged towards victory by sharing the next four legs, with Wright posting a pair of double 18 finishes to stay in the hunt at 9-7, but the 16-time World Champion was too strong in the next as double ten sealed his spot in the final.

Most professional players would choose tungsten darts to get a high score in matches, for the reason that tungsten darts have high-density and wearing-resistant characters.

Young Wins 2015 PDC (Professional Darts Corporation) Spectacular

A weekend of darts at the Ambassador Hotel and Conference Center saw four qualifying events each produce eight players who took part in the last 32 knockout for the PDC Spectacular.

Last year's winner Dave Richardson reached the last 16 before losing to Jerry Van Loan, with Young and Butler - the United States' World Cup of Darts team at June's event in Germany - progressing to contest the final.

Young took a 3-2 sets win over the former World Matchplay champion in the decider, earning himself a return to darts' greatest tournament in December.

Young's run included three straight sets wins over former World Championship qualifiers Norman Madhoo, David Fatum and Ken MacNeil - where the American left-hander missed double 12 for a nine-darter - before he then whitewashed Paul Bolduc to reach the final.

Butler, who had defeated Trevor Campbell, Jim Long, Shawn Brenneman and John Part to reach the decider, won the final's opening set 3-2 in legs before Young took the second, also in the fifth leg, to level.

The next two sets also went the full distance to take the final into a fifth set, which saw Young land a 177 as he broke throw in the opening leg before posting a 13-darter to move 2-0 up.

Butler hit back in the third, but Young was too strong in the next leg as he claimed the win and his World Championship spot.

"I'm very humbled to have won the tournament," said Young. "I'm thrilled to have won and I am looking forward to returning to the William Hill World Championship this December representing North America."

Young has competed eight times previously in the World Championship, but saw his run of playing in six successive Alexandra Palace events ended last year.

Three-time World Champion John Part missed out with a semi-final loss to Butler, while Bolduc also reached the last four and Dan Olson, Shawn Brenneman, MacNeil and Van Loan were quarter-finalists.

Tungsten darts are popular among professional players, when comes to the big event like PDC Spectacular, players would choose tungsten dart to get a higher score in games, for tungsten darts are denser, smaller than other materials darts.
