DARTS: Round-up with Steve Chapman

 

A TOTAL of 64 players will battle it out on the oche on Sunday but one marksman missing will be reigning champion Simon Stevenson.
 
His quest to win the tourney for a fourth time ended at the first hurdle when he was beaten by 2012 runner-up Robbie Bisgrove in the preliminary round.
 
This stage of the competition will be played at four venues and all ties will be the best of five legs of 501, flying start, and the bust rule will apply throughout the competition.
 
The first match in all venues will commence at 8pm.
 
The winners from this round will go forward to the last 32 which will be contested on Sunday, October 20.
 
PLYMOUTH & DISTRICT FRIDAY LEAGUE
 
MARITIME Social Club returned to winning ways following their shock defeat the previous week and defeated Waterloo A 11-2 to top the table by 14 points.
 
Second placed Ker Street Social Club had to keep their nerve when hosting Steam Packet B as the visitors came from 6-3 down to level at 6-6, before Robbie Bisgrove acquired the 13th and decisive point.
 
City Social overcame Friary Vaults 9-4 and were buoyed by an excellent showing from Phil Hoskins, who recorded no fewer than three maximum 180s.
 
Antony Hayman threw the week's top game in 35, inspiring Porters A to a 9-4 success at Indian Inn B.
 
Weston Mill Oak Villa consolidated third spot with a 10-3 victory at St Levan Inn. Chris Lancaster threw the week's top checkout with a mark of 128, while also on target with ton-plus checkouts were Mark Shears (114), Steve Tremblett (105) and Nathan Beeney (104).
 
Indian A secured all but one of the 13 points that were on offer at Porters B, being deprived of maximum points by Lee Soper.
