How to Make Office Darts

A boring day at the office can be remedied by an impromptu game of darts during coffee break, but your boss probably won't be receptive to your bringing a dartboard to work. Instead, make your own game of office darts using these instructions.

1Find three unsharpened wooden pencils.

2.Tape a push pin to the end of a single pencil. Simply press a length of tape sticky-side down over the point of the pin, place the
pin against the blunt end of the pencil, and wrap the tape down over the sides to secure the pin in place. Apply additional pieces of tape if necessary.

3.Fold a small post-it in half, place the pencil in the crease, and tape the paper to the pencil. Fold two more post-its and arrange
them so that all three creases meet in the middle, forming a three-pointed wing on the end of the dart. Tape the papers together.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the remaining pencils.

4.Make a dart board. Draw or print out a picture of a dart board (or your nemesis) and pin it up on a bulletin board or soft cubicle
wall. The soft backing will allow the darts to stick when thrown. Then start playing darts.

Tips for Throw Darts

Working out your 'finishes' is crucial to winning. You can buy cheat cards with all the combinations from 170 down. i.e. 147 finish could be T20,T19,D15. Or T19,T18,D18. Practice your doubles. This will make it possible to win games, even from 100-200 behind, just because the other player can't finish. It don't matter how high you score. If you can't finish, you can't win.

If you've got a few bucks to spend, you can buy a set of darts for anywhere from 10 to 150 dollars. Most generic exercise stores will have a few darts on hand. Just look for the ping-pong balls and they should be nearby! Most of the darts you will find here are brass darts costing from 10 to 25 dollars a set. Most beginners tend to do better with a heavier dart, usually something in the 24-26 gram range. Better quality darts, usually made of tungsten, can be had starting at about $40. Because tungsten is denser (heavier) than brass, you can have a thinner dart for the same weight.

How to Throw Darts

Throwing darts is a matter of consistency and practice, practice, practice! Even if you don't have hours and hours to spare developing your skills, you can still see noticeable improvement by following a few basic steps.

1.Pick a dart that's right for you. If you're not a regular player, you may not have a lot of choice in how you pick your darts, as
you'll be left to rely upon whatever loaners you can pick up. When choosing your loaners, first make sure that all three darts are of
the same weight and design. Buying your own high-quality darts is best, however. See the Tips below for more advice.Check to make sure the flights are all in one piece and at least similar in shape.

2.Check that the tips are not bent (they don't have to be super sharp to stick in most bristle dartboards) and that the shafts (the
part to the rear of the dart that holds the flight in place) are screwed into the barrel (the part you grip when you throw)

Stand on the oche (pronounced like 'hockey' minus the 'h', aka the toe-line) with the foot corresponding to which hand you intend to throw with perpendicular to the line. Many oches will be ruled, so take note of where you stand so you can stand there again next time.

3.Draw an imaginary line from where your toe touches the line perpendicular to the oche. Place your rear foot in a location that

distributes your weight easily. If you wobble when you throw, you need to spread your feet further apart!

4.Stand up straight, shoulders back but comfortable and in line with the center of the board.

5.You can bend forward (toward the board) slightly at the waist, but you should not sacrifice balance or cause discomfort doing so.

6.Grip the dart lightly in your throwing hand. There are many different methods for gripping the dart, so choose one that works
best for you and remember it. When selecting your grip, consider that you want the dart stable in your hand and parallel to the floor - or tilted slightly upward - upon release. You also want a clean release, so try and keep as little of your fingers touching the dart as possible. Resist holding the dart like a pencil, as the friction of your fingers can cause the dart to veer off target. Some people spread cue chalk on the fingers of the throwing hand to help with grip.

7.When you throw, move only your throwing arm. Don't hop, bounce, dip, or dive! You want the dart to release at the same point in your throw everytime and extra movement will make that nearly impossible! Throw your dart with a smooth, fluid motion. Don't flick or jerk it at the board. You do not need to hurl the dart with great force to make it stick! Always follow through with your hand. This will stop the dart flying left or right. Don't move your head.

8.Concentrate on throwing the exact same way at the same point for a few throws. Pick a spot and try to hit it. If you don't, that's
okay. What you're looking for here is precision, not accuracy. Your hand and eye will slowly correct for your throw as you play, improving your aim.

Try to have your eye / throwing hand in a line that is central on the dartboard. All you need to worry about is the height of the
throw to hit a 60 (in theory).

Thornton'spercentage Out Chartfor Darters

The main focus of this darts out chart is to take advantage of not only the mathematics involved in '01 strategy, but the layout of the
dartboard itself. Regardless of a players ability, he or she will not always hit exactly what they attempt to throw. However, by
taking advantage of groups of numbers (called "pies"...for pie slices), all levels of throwers can reduce the number of darts they
need to finish a game.I have also tried to include outs for those dart throwers who prefer bringing their score down by throwing 19's opposed to 20's. In many cases these are just as solid, percentage wise, as the throw at the top of the board. The bottom line is, by throwing a percentage game, you will frequently get a shot (maybe only one) at an out before your opponent. As your confidence in your strategy grows, so does your ability. Be sure to note the different choices depending on the number of darts you have remaining. Good luck (you'll need less of it playing "the percentages") and good darts!

How-To Sharpen Darts Points

A few years ago, in a British televised match, a highly ranked professional darter bounced 6 darts off of the dartboard's wires
within just a few minutes of play.

Incredibly, this darts pro never appeared to pay any attention to the condition or shape of his points. Those possibly-winning throws ended up on the floor, perhaps costing him thousands in tournament prize money. All because he simply did not bother to keep his dart points shaped properly, so that they would slide off the wires and stick in the dartboard.

Thornton Triumphs In Wigan

ROBERT THORNTON edged a dramatic final against Ian White to win the sixth Players Championship of the year and claim his first title of 2014 at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan.

The Scot found himself 4-2 and 5-4 down to the Stoke ace and survived match darts in the tenth leg of the final before triumphing
in the decider.Thornton began his run to the title with 6-3 win over David Pallett before recording a brace of 6-1 wins over Aden Kirk and Wayne Jones to claim his place in the last 16.

The Betway Premier League star then knocked out Andy Parsons 6-3 before edging out Richie Burnett 6-5 in a tight quarter-final
encounter.Thornton faced Phil Taylor in the semi-finals, and he started well by establishing a 3-0 advantage before Taylor won three of the next four legs to pull back to 4-3.

The next two legs were shared before Thornton took out a 76 finish to seal his place in the final, after Taylor had missed a dart at
the bullseye to force a deciding leg.Thornton also enjoyed a good start in the final against White by winning the first two legs, only for the Stoke thrower to race through the next four, hitting an 11-darter and two 14-dart-finishes in the process.

The Scotsman hit back to win the seventh leg with a fabulous 144 checkout before taking the eighth in 13 darts to level the game at four apiece and set up a tense finale.

White took out an 81 finish to win the ninth leg and edge back ahead, but missed six opportunities to close out the game in the
next and Thornton capitalised to hit double eight and force a deciding leg.Thornton held the advantage of throw in the final leg and two 140 scores put him clear, and he went on to hit double top to claim his first title of 2014 and the eighth of his PDC career.White, a World Championship quarter-finalist at Alexandra Palace last Christmas, reached his second final in the space of three weeks, but once again fell at the last hurdle.

The 43-year-old claimed 6-2 wins over John Henderson and Joey Ten Berge to open the day before an excellent whitewash in the last 32 over Stuart Kellett continued his smooth progress.White continued his excellent form as he dropped just three legs to Andrew Gilding and Vincent van der Voort before sealing a place in the final with a 6-1 win over Kyle Anderson, which featured a 141 checkout from the Stoke star.

In the final, White responded well to dropping the first two legs against Thornton by claiming the next four with some fabulous darts – including an 11-dart-finish in the fourth leg.White, though, was left to rue six missed chances to win the match in the tenth leg as Thornton won the last two legs to steal the £10,000 first prize.

Following a second round exit to Scottish newcomer Jamie Bain in Saturday’s event, Phil Taylor showed some superb form in his run to the semi-finals 24 hours later.

The 16-time World Champion defeated five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld 6-4 in a high-quality quarter-final encounter – ending with a 110.41 average to defy the Dutchman’s five 180s.

That put Taylor through to the last four, but his hopes of reaching a fourth final of the year were ended after a narrow 6-4 loss to
eventual winner Thornton.Australia’s Kyle Anderson, who created his own piece of World Championship history last Christmas with a fantastic nine-darter, produced a brilliant run to the semi-finals, his best result since securing a Tour Card in January. The 26-year-old - now based in Nottingham after moving to the UK - claimed notable wins over experienced aces Darren Webster and Mark Walsh en route to the last eight, where he defeated seven-time major champion James Wade by a 6-3 margin. That superb win put Anderson through to the last four, but his fantastic run ended there as he lost 6-1 to White, despite hitting a 140 checkout to win his only leg of the contest.

Van Barneveld and Wade reached the quarter-finals for a second consecutive day, while another Dutchman, Vincent van der Voort, reached his fourth quarter-final of 2014 after a strong display.1995 Lakeside Champion Richie Burnett enjoyed his best result of the year with a fine run to the last eight, which included wins over Kirk Shepherd, Ronny Huybrechts and Wes Newton before narrowly losing to Thornton.

Bristol’s Andy Parsons enjoyed his run in a ProTour event since securing his Tour Card at the start of the year by reaching the last
16, while Wales’ Kevin Thomas matched his effort in the Dutch Darts Masters two months ago by progressing to the same stage.
Saturday’s winner Brendan Dolan lost his opening game to Stoke’s Mark Frost, while Michael van Gerwen suffered a first round exit for the first time in nearly two years after a 6-2 loss to Michael Barnard.
