Japan developed a new technique for efficient recovery of rare earth neodymium magnets from waste in

Japan Shimane University research new technology to extract rare earth neodymium magnets from waste under normal temperature and pressure conditions. Previous rare earth resource recovery, using hydrochloric acid as solvent, carried out under high temperature and pressure, there are some problems in terms of efficiency and cost. The Faculty of Shimane University Polytechnic successfully developed new technology system, using a mixed solution of sulfuric acid and oxalic acid as solvent, with the use of zirconia grinding kinetic energy, under normal temperature and pressure after demagnetization processed scrap magnet powder synthesis processing, high efficiency and low cost to obtain the purity for industrial use for more than 80% high purity neodymium oxalate, the waste in the magnet of neodymium can recover nearly 100%.

METI Japan Patent Office has issued in March 17, 2014 the technology of the invention patent public bulletin, Shimane University research team is working with Japanese resource regeneration and chemical equipment of the enterprises to cooperate, to further improve the recycling purity and enhance the recovery ability of the system. At the same time, the research team also further studies using this system recovery nd other rare earth, rare metal resources.

This technique greatly reduces the recovery cost, is considered to be an important breakthrough in rare earth recovery technology, utilization of rare earth resources cycle has important significance.
