Chinese Rare Earth Prices - October 12, 2024

Chinese rare earth prices fluctuated within a narrow range, with praseodymium-neodymium oxide prices dropping by around RMB 1,000 per ton, terbium oxide prices remaining relatively stable, and dysprosium-iron alloy prices decreasing by about RMB 20,000 per ton.

In the light rare earth market, several factors contributed to a rational adjustment in prices by major suppliers, including a slight decline in the transaction volume of praseodymium-neodymium metal from Northern Rare Earth, stock market declines, and the increase in Northern Rare Earth's listing prices this month. In the medium and heavy rare earth market, although strong production cost support and the promising outlook for downstream industries helped maintain firm pricing strategies by most suppliers, weaker-than-expected demand from downstream buyers led to relatively subdued trading activity.

In industry news, according to Baotou's Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, among the eight key rare earth products monitored in September 2024, prices of four products increased month-on-month, three remained flat, and one decreased. The largest month-on-month increase was seen in neodymium metal, with an average price of RMB 528,000 per ton, up by RMB 47,000 per ton or 9.7%, though down year-on-year by RMB 112,000 per ton or 17.5%. On a year-over-year basis, prices of six products fell, while two rose, with neodymium oxide experiencing the largest decline.
