While coordination and fine motor control are important natural abilities for the darts player, proper technique is crucial to maximizing a player's potential. Darts technique has three primary components—the stance, the grip and the throwing motion. By optimizing each of these components, a player can make the most of his natural ability.
Throwing Stance
The correct throwing stance begins with an acceptable shoulder angle. Ideally, the shoulders should be parallel to the surface of the dart board, although most players find that angles of between 50 and 80 degrees provide the most comfort. The angle of the feet should closely match the angle of the shoulders. The player's front foot should bear the brunt of her weight, while the rear foot should be used for balance. A degree of forward lean will minimize the distance between the player and the board, but lean should be used with moderation, because greater lean coincides with diminishing stability, and can result in back injuries. The balance foot (rear foot) should rest on its toes. The player's back should remain straight, not arched or hunched.
Gripping the Dart
Gripping styles vary from player to player, but there are certain fundamental aspects of the grip that should apply to every variation. The dart should be held between the fingertips and the thumb, with the thumb resting slightly behind the dart's center of gravity, and as many as four or as few as two fingers in contact with the dart. The number of fingers used should vary based on the length of the dart's barrel, with longer barrels requiring extra fingers. The dart should not slip or wobble between the fingers, but the fingers should not be tensed to an uncomfortable degree. Unused fingers should not be placed in a partial fist shape, as this is likely to disrupt the throwing motion, but rather fully extended or placed in the same position as the fingers touching the dart.
Throwing Motion
The shoulder should not change position during the throw; only the arm should move. The elbow should remain fixed during the pull-back motion prior to the throw, but should elevate slightly during the positive throwing motion. Depending on the player's level of experience, the wrist can either be snapped forward or remain fixed during the throwing motion. Snapping the wrist can be a source of error for novice players, but advanced players will gain acceleration and thus accuracy by snapping the wrist at the point of release. When aiming, the player should form a straight line from his eyes through the dart and to the desired target on the board. After a controlled pull-back, the player should accelerate smoothly through the motion, releasing the dart just before the motion reaches its peak height, and following through with a straight arm pointed at the desired target.

Playing soft tip darts involves a great deal of accuracy. The darts have a tendency to bounce out of the board between or out of the holes. It is essential not to throw the darts too hard, especially if throwing from a closer distance. The weight of the dart is also important. Some leagues or competitions limit the weights of the darts used. Therefore, it is advisable to play with darts that weigh 18 grams or less. Heavier darts can result in broken tips and may not be allowed by organizers of leagues. In terms of technique, try to avoid leaning way over the throw line when throwing, as this can result in a loss of balance.
Equipment
When playing, bring extra tips. The plastic points on the end of the darts are prone to breaking, so it is best to carry a supply of extra tips in a case. The tips come in a variety of colors and screw into the barrel of the dart. Broken dart extractors can be purchased, so that in the case of a tip breaking, the part of the tip lodged in the barrel can be unscrewed and retracted.

A soft tip dartboard is a lot of fun and safer than playing with traditional steel-tip darts. With automated score-keeping and a variety of built-in games, soft tip boards are becoming more popular in home game rooms. They require very little space and are inexpensive to purchase and maintain.Setting up your dartboard is easy and only requires a few basic tools.
1.Choose a suitable location for the dartboard with at least 10 feet of clear space in front of the board. Ensure that there is a power outlet within reach of the board's power cord, if so equipped.
2.Use the stud finder to locate a stud in the wall on which you want to mount the board.
3.Measure the distance from the center of the bulls-eye to the top mounting holes on the dartboard. Measure 68 inches, plus the distance you measured, up the wall and make a mark.
4.Drive the mounting screw(s) into the wall at the level of the mark. Hang the board from the screw(s) and ensure that the bulls-eye is 68 inches from the floor. Locate the throwing line 96 inches from the front of the board.
5.Plug the dartboard into a power outlet or install fresh batteries in the battery compartment.

Soft tip darts is a game that has evolved from the traditional game of darts. The tips of the darts are made of plastic and are designed to be used with an electronic dartboard.Being plastic, the darts are safer and reduce the risk of damage to the area surrounding the board.
The soft tip version of the game is relatively new and originates from the U.S. As with traditional darts, players can choose their game. As the dartboard is electronic, machines can be programmed for a variety of darts games including 701 and cricket. Rules remain the same as those for steel tip darts. Players throw from the set distance of 7 feet, 9 1/4 inches at a board which is hung at 5 feet, 8 inches. The face of the board is made up of small holes to accommodate the entry of the dart. Each time a player throws a dart, the electronic scorer (situated at the side of the board) calculates the score, subtracting it from the player's previous total. Both scores are displayed on the scoreboard adjacent to the dartboard.

How Does an Electronic Dart Board Work?

Laser Sensors
When a dart hits a laser board, one or more lasers scan the board. When the beam is broken,it can calculate the location of the dart and send the data to the scoring system. It doesn't matter what type of dart you use; the beam only scans for objects in its path.
Electronic Paneling
Boards that use electric paneling simply score the dart for the panel struck. Because the panels contain electric circuitry, these boards require users to use soft-tipped darts to avoid damaging the board.
Remote Infrared Scoring
Some boards incorporate a wireless infrared relay system that reports the score to a transmitter near the board. The transmitter then relays the score via an infrared radio signal to a receiver near the players. The receiver then emits any infrared beams onto the floor that display the score and throwing line.
Stands and Mounts
Electronic dart boards, just like bristle boards, can be hung from walls or assembled in freestanding cabinets. Wall-mounted boards are typically suspended from a stud screwed into a wall. Cabinet boards are generally composed of elegant woods to house the board -- making the set seem like a piece of furniture.
