Rare earth market update on August 13, 2025
Domestic rare earth prices remain locally stable with slight increases in some cases, such as praseodymium-neodymium oxide prices rising by approximately 3,000 yuan per ton, praseodymium-neodymium metal prices rising by about 8,000 yuan per ton, and dysprosium oxide prices increasing by around 10,000 yuan per ton. According to CTIA GROUP LTD Online, under a relatively balanced supply-demand relationship, the market trading atmosphere is subdued.
From the supply side, the current spot supply of the rare earth market faces multiple overlapping constraints: firstly, a slowdown in downstream procurement pace has led some rare earth manufacturers to voluntarily reduce production due to inventory pressure and cost control considerations; secondly, influenced by significant geopolitical risks and higher overseas rare earth prices, China’s rare earth product imports are limited; thirdly, stricter environmental policies and frequent high-temperature rainy weather have slowed the capacity release speed of some suppliers.
From the demand side, short-term demand is weak due to limited market liquidity and relatively high current rare earth prices. However, in the long term, as global support for energy conservation, emission reduction, and new energy industries increases, the production and sales of new energy vehicles are expected to rise, driving demand for rare earth permanent magnet motors and, in turn, boosting the need for high-performance neodymium-iron-boron magnets. The rise of emerging fields such as humanoid robots and the low-altitude economy has opened new demand spaces for the rare earth industry.
In terms of news, recently, the Jiangxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission’s official website reported that in July 2025, the average sales price of Ganzhou tungsten concentrate was 174,000 yuan per ton, increased by 1.16% month-on-month, and increased by 29.85% year-on-year. During the same period, the average sales prices of Ganzhou high-yttrium oxide (rare earth) and medium-yttrium europium oxide (rare earth) were 214,000 yuan per ton and 190,000 yuan per ton, respectively, with month-on-month increases of 0.94% and 1.06%, and year-on-year increases of 9.74% and 15.15%, respectively.
