Nano Tungsten Disulfide Used in Isothermal Die Forging

Nano tungsten disulfide can be used in isothermal die forging to reduce the friction loss between working parts and improve their service lives. A dense protective film of tungsten disulfide will be formed during the forging process.

Nano tungsten disulfide is a new kind of solid lubricating material that has good antifriction capability and high resistance to extreme pressure. During the friction process, it can reach the friction surface with the lubricant as lubricating additive. With small granularity and lamellar structure, it can effectively improve the lubricating performance of the original lubricant.

Isothermal die forging is an advanced die forging technology developed in recent years. It means that the temperature of the die and the workpiece is kept at the same or similar constant value during the die forging. And the whole process is a little slow. Isothermal die forging can overcome the problem of work hardening under high temperature. The obtained workpiece has excellent mechanical properties and good surface quality. It is suitable for the forming of complex aluminium alloy parts.

Nano tungsten disulfide has good prospects for application in isothermal die forging.

1. Nano tungsten disulfide has good heat resistance and oxidation resistance. Nano tungsten disulfide is stable up to 1100 °C under a vacuum condition and has low friction coefficient up to 500 °C in air. At temperatures higher than 400°C, it can form a film of tungsten trioxide with low friction as well to reduce the wear between working parts.

2. Nano-tungsten disulfide has high adsorption capacity on metal surface. When used as lubricant in isothermal die forging, it will adhere to the die surface tightly to form a film that can reduce the forging load and energy.

3. Nano tungsten disulfide does not react with dies and workpieces during storage and use. And it does no harm to the health of operators and the environment. It is non-toxic.
