Cleaver & Modra Win Auckland Spots

Cleaver edged out experienced Kiwi Warren Parry 6-5 in the final of the day's opening event to claim the second of four qualifying places on offer in this weekend's PDC World Series of Darts event at the Trusts Arena.

The knockout stage also saw Cleaver defeat Kerry Whear, Mike Lacey and Leon Twose for the loss of only four legs as he progressed into the decider.

Tuesday's Qualifier One runner-up Craig Caldwell was a semi-finalist, while last week's Sydney Darts Masters qualifier Cody Harris was joined in the last 16 by Mark McGrath, who competed in the William Hill World Championship last December.

The third DPNZ Qualifier is being held on Wednesday evening, with Rob Modra condemning Qualifier One runner-up Craig Caldwell to another agonizing defeat as the Australian ace earned his debut in front of the television cameras.

Following a 3-0 win over Mike Day in the Last 16, Modra then went all the way to a deciding leg against 2014 Sydney Darts Masters qualifier Damon Heta, Tukina Weko and then in the final against Caldwell.

Caldwell, a New Zealand representative in the World Cup of Darts who qualified to compete in the Perth Darts Masters and Sydney Darts Masters over the past fortnight, will have one final chance to earn a spot in Auckland in Thursday's DPNZ Qualifier four, which will decide the final spot in the tournament.
