American Cutting Edge, a US industrial blade specialist, has acquired the tungsten carbide blade business of Superion Inc.

The sale includes Superion’s line of solid tungsten carbide and ceramic razor blades, as well as its proprietary sharpening process that allows the blades to be used multiple times.

Terms of the deal, which includes equipment and intellectual property, were not disclosed.

Company officials say the sale will allow Superion Inc to concentrate on its primary line, the manufacturing of precision cutting tools for metalworking.
 
American Cutting Edge, a division CB Manufacturing & Sales Co, designs and produces steel and tungsten carbide industrial blades that are sold globally. Last autumn, CB Manufacturing acquired Heat Treating Inc.

Imagine a lump of iron the size of a tennis ball. Weigh it in your hand. Now let it drop on to your foot. How does that feel? Now imagine an identical object three times as dense. How would that feel if you dropped it? Would you ever walk again?

That metal is tungsten.

As well as being incredibly dense tungsten is also incredibly hard and has the highest melting point of all the elements at 3,422C.

A century or so ago the world had no use for tungsten - it was almost impossible to shape or work the stuff. Yet now we use tungsten to write with, to traverse glaciers, to emit X-rays and to destroy buildings without the use of explosives.

To understand how this happened, we need to understand the competitive forces that have shaped everything in our world, and where better to start than a mystery at the heart of the evolution of life?

For the first four billion years, life didn't actually do much evolving. Organisms were small, simple and fairly rare. Then around 500 million years ago something extraordinary happened - the fossil records show there was an incredible explosion of life.

"Tungsten makes very good bullets," the military analyst Robert Kelley said. "It is the kind of thing that if you fire it at someone else's armour, it will go right through it and kill it."

And just like the creatures of the Cambrian period, once someone starts using teeth (or tungsten bullets) you need to do something about it.

"If you introduce tungsten into your bullets you've got to introduce tungsten into your armour," says Mr Kelley.

At the beginning of this month, the trade of tungsten has been stable and moving smoothly, but price of tungsten ranges from raw material tungsten concentrate to tungsten finished parts has been staying stable, without the trend of increasing until end of July. 

Tungsten concentrate price has remained 110,000 RMB yuan/ton, and it has been not so high since the beginning of 2014. The above price is for 65 degree tungsten concentrate, and for 60 degree price will be in 2,000 RMB yuan/ton less than 65 degree. As for the stable price of tungsten concentrate, tungsten oxide/trioxide is keeping at 210,000.00RMB yuan/ton for both yellow tungsten oxide and blue tungsten oxide. AMT is almost 205,000.00RMB yuan/ton, and APT 175,000.00RMB yuan/ton.

Important products made from tungsten concentrate, tungsten powder, can be purchased at 295,000 RMB yuan/ton, as a direct result, the price of regular tungsten finished products is stabilized at to 400,000 RMB yuan/ton. So is the trend of tungsten carbide price and tungsten alloy price.

It is also reported from China that owners of tungsten concentrate stay attitude of waiting, or sale the material in spot cash. Therefore, if requirement of tungsten oxide, AMT, APT and other tungsten powder products to prepare some at most or can wait for the price trend in very end of July, reported from Chinatungsten Online.
