Like tungsten bars, tungsten sheet is a typical product of the transition metal tungsten, sharing highly similar thermal, mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties, and is widely used in industries such as machinery and semiconductors.
Tungsten sheet can be categorized into pure tungsten sheet and tungsten alloy sheet. The former is a thin sheet made from pure tungsten powder, while the latter is an alloy product with tungsten as the hard phase and metals like nickel and iron as the binding phase. Their properties differ to some extent.
Tungsten sheet is generally steel-gray in color, characterized by a high melting point, significant hardness, high density, low thermal expansion coefficient, good electrical and thermal conductivity, strong corrosion resistance, wear resistance, high-temperature resistance, and oxidation resistance.
Notably, compared to tungsten alloy sheet, pure tungsten sheet is more brittle and harder to process (forging, stretching, and impact). However, its melting point and density are typically higher than those of tungsten alloy sheet. For tungsten alloy sheet, the melting point and density are closely tied to the type and content of the binding agent; as the binder content increases within a certain range, the tungsten content decreases, leading to a corresponding reduction in the melting point and density of the alloy sheet.
Pure tungsten sheet can be produced using powder metallurgy, where tungsten powder is shaped and heated to a temperature below its melting point, achieving densification through material migration to obtain the desired product. Tungsten-nickel-iron alloy sheet, a type of tungsten-based alloy, can be manufactured using injection molding, where molten colloidal material is injected under pressure into a mold cavity of a specific shape to produce the desired product.
Tungsten sheet can be used as a sputtering target, a component in sapphire crystal growth furnaces, and as a heat shield and reflective shield in vacuum furnaces.
