1. Machining. Machinists frequently use tungsten carbide tools to machine other hard metals, such as stainless steel. When they are manufacturing machine parts, the material that they are constructed from must be hard and resistant to wear. This makes milling or machining these metals that much more difficult, and, as such, must choose a material harder than the material to be machined. Tungsten carbide fits this bill perfectly.
2. High Production. When producing a large number of units in an industrial setting, the mechanisms that are stamping or machining the parts should be long-lasting and resistant to wear. For this reason, even when the machined material is not particularly difficult to work with, use tungsten carbide due to its longevity. It is subject to chipping, however, and is frequently coated with another material.
3. High-Speed Tools. In industrial applications where tools will be used at a high rate of speed, high temperatures inherently follow. Tungsten carbide is resistant to extremely high temperatures, making it ideal for situations where tools and mechanisms are needed to perform in these high-heat applications. This makes them useful for grinding tools and metal milling bits.
4. Torch and Welding Tips. Tungsten carbide is used for acetylene and other torching applications where you need a material that can retain its properties under constant exposure to flame. It is also useful in welding applications where a metal is exposed to high heat but cannot bond to the material being welded.

The Manual Metal Arc Process

Manual metal arc welding was first invented in Russia in 1888. It involved a bare metal rod with no flux coating to give a protective gas shield. The development of coated electrodes did not occur until the early 1900s when the Kjellberg process was invented in Sweden and the Quasi-arc method was introduced in the UK. It is worth noting that coated electrodes were slow to be adopted because of their high cost. However, it was inevitable that as the demand for sound welds grew, manual metal arc became synonymous with coated electrodes. When an arc is struck between the metal rod (electrode) and the workpiece, both the rod and workpiece surface melt to form a weld pool. Simultaneous melting of the flux coating on the rod will form gas and slag which protects the weld pool from the surrounding atmosphere. The slag will solidify and cool and must be chipped off the weld bead once the weld run is complete (or before the next weld pass is deposited).
The process allows only short lengths of weld to be produced before a new electrode needs to be inserted in the holder. Weld penetration is low and the quality of the weld deposit is highly dependent on the skill of the welder.

In the tungsten carbide ball tooth drill head selection, there are several shapes: hemispherical gear, bevel gear, parabolic tooth, wedge-shaped teeth.
Hemisphere teeth enough hydraulic rock drill impact energy, energyutilization is high, the effect of rock breaking, extremely resistant alloy teeth. Cone-toothed alloy ball gear is easy to chisel into the rock drilling rate higher impact energy (wind pressure of wind power rock drill, hydraulic rock drill performance change) bevel gear work more effectively, but poor abrasion resistance. Parabolic ball gear between bevel gear and hemispheric is of foreign alloy plant or joint-venture factory production and use.
The wedge-shaped ball gear is suitable for hard and abrasive rock.

Tungsten carbide studs are commonly inserted in snow tires in areas with a lot of snowy or icy weather. Tire studs increase traction in bad road conditions caused by the bad weather.
When the bad weather has passed and the tires are driven on the road, the tungsten carbide studs are very noisy and cause damage to road surfaces. Thankfully, tungsten carbide tire studs are removable so that snow tires can continue to be used without dealing with the noise or damaging the highways.

1. Remove the tire from the vehicle. Apply tire lubricant to each of the carbide studs. For best results, purchase tire lubricant that is used to mount tires.
2. Grip the stud with a pair of pliers and twist as you pull.
3. Continue twisting and pulling each stud until all are removed.
4. Place the tire in a tank of water after all the studs are removed or spray completely around the tire with window cleaner. Watch for air bubbles that indicate a puncture.
5. Have the punctures repaired at a tire shop, if needed.
6. Rinse the tire to remove all of the lubricant and mount the tire back onto the vehicle.
7. Test the air pressure after the tire is mounted, and add or remove air to get the tire pressure into the recommended range.

How to Remove a Tungsten Carbide Rings
- Details

The only way to remove a tungsten carbide ring in case of emergency is to remove the finger. But the usual method of using a pair of metal cutters on the ring won't work. What you need is a strong grip and a pair of the proper pliers.
1. Take the vise-grip pliers and carefully begin to squeeze the tungsten carbide ring. Steadily adjust the pressure on the side of the vise until you hear the ring crack.
2. Rotate the ring (or the pliers if the ring is stuck too tightly to turn) a third of the way and repeat the previous step. Continue to squeeze the ring until you hear it crack in a different place.
3. Continue cracking the tungsten carbide until it breaks entirely. The ring should shatter, leaving the finger intact.
Tips & Warnings
If possible, allow emergency or medical personnel to crack a tungsten carbide ring. But if you have to do it yourself, be very careful to ramp up the pressure in increments so that you don't accidentally clamp the person's finger with the vise grips.

Features
Tungsten carbide rings look like steel, relatively heavy, scratch-resistant and can be combined with other materials, like black or blue carbon fiber or precious metals like gold, to create a special look. This material is a good alternative for various types of jewelery, from wedding bands to engagement rings.
Precautions
There are imitations of tungsten carbide rings that use a cobalt tungsten mixture rather than the tungsten carbide. These rings may cost as much as the real thing, but are not as durable and can cause you to develop an itchy rash on your finger or hand. Additionally, the oils on your hand can cause the cobalt to oxide creating spots on the ring.
Importance of the Binder
You always should ask the retailer which sort of binder is used. If not, you most likely may be getting a ring that uses a cobalt binder, which is not has high quality as ones made with a nickel-binder. Nickel-binder, which does not cause allergic reactions and is durable, is best.

Using tungsten carbide for rings has several benefits. They do not need regular polishing. The original polish can last the lifetime of the ring.
There is also a difference in price. A tungsten carbide ring can cost from $55 to $150 dollars, depending on the retailer. The average gold wedding band, on the other hand, can easily start well above $100.
Tungsten carbide is a very strong material, compared to the relatively soft gold and silver and does not cause the allergic reactions the more traditional metals can.

1. Tungsten carbide roughing end mills are used for removing large amounts of material in a quick, precise manner that allows for maximum efficiency and speed. Roughing end mills come in standard sizes both standard and metric from a few millimeters in diameter to more than an inch. Common standard sizes are .25, .5, .75 and 1 inch and available in fine and coarse tooth configurations. Most roughing end mills are made from cobalt, have three or more flutes and have coatings that dissipate heat to prolong their lives.
2. Tungsten carbide finishing end mills are used in computer numerical control and manual milling machines, as well as lathes of both kinds to bring the material to the finished dimensions as dictated by the blueprint. Finishing end mills come in all sizes with one-half inch the most common. They have between two and five flutes and can be made from various materials including high-speed steel and carbide. Other common sizes include 1 inch and specialty sizes are available as small as .05 inch.
3. Tungsten carbide ball end mills are specially made end mills with a ball end. They are perfectly suited for taking steps cuts of very small amounts of material. The radius of the end mill allows for small cuts using the tip that contours the area without interference of the 90-degree angles of standard end mills. Ball mills are finishing end mills and do not have ridged fluting. These end mills are often made of carbide for rigidity and can be coated to dissipate heat as well.
4. Tungsten carbide double ended end mills come in various sizes and variations including finishing and roughing types. There is a cutting edge on each side of the end mill, so it can be turned around once one edge becomes dulled. The standard sizes include .5, .75 and 1 inch for roughers and .5 inch for finishing end mills. Ball end mills are also available as double ended and come in standard .5 inch sizes.
