China Rare Earth Prices - March 17, 2023

This week, China rare earth prices have shown a downward trend as a whole. The current downstream industries of rare earths, such as new energy vehicles and 3C consumer electronics, are doing so well. Tesla announced that the next generation of permanent magnet motors will abandon rare earths.

Traders have a serious mentality of "buying up and not buying down", and factors such as the fact that the production capacity of rare earth manufacturers has not slowed down significantly for the time being are all reasons why it is difficult to increase the consumption capacity of downstream users.

According to Chinatungsten Online, the price of praseodymium and neodymium oxide dropped by about 63,000 yuan/ton this week, a drop of 10.05%; the price of praseodymium and neodymium metal dropped by about 75,000 yuan/ton, a drop of 9.93%; the price of gadolinium oxide dropped by about 36,000 yuan/ton, a drop of 11.61%; Terbium oxide dropped by about 600 yuan/kg, a drop of 5.66%; dysprosium-iron alloy dropped by about 5,000 yuan/ton, a drop of 0.25%; 55N NdFeB blanks dropped by about 20 yuan/kg, a drop of 6.56%; 60 yuan/kg, a decrease of 9.38%.

It can be seen that the price of praseodymium and neodymium fell more than that of dysprosium and terbium this week, which may be affected by the news of Tesla's "removal of rare earths". Praseodymium and neodymium materials are an important component of rare earth permanent magnet materials. However, since rare earth is a non-renewable resource and a strategic core mineral resource in my country, under the protection of the state, the rare earth market is still expected to recover in the future.

In terms of news: "Jiangxi Province's Carbon Peak Implementation Plan" proposes to speed up the transformation of production processes in copper, tungsten, and rare earth industries; build a world-class characteristic tungsten and rare earth industry cluster with Ganzhou as the core. The "Implementation Plan for the Province's Special Action for In-depth Rectification and Standardization of the Protection, Development and Utilization of Mineral Resources" proposes that through centralized regulation of the development and utilization of mineral resources, especially tungsten, rare earth, lithium and other protective and strategic mineral resources, unlicensed exploration and mining, random mining Illegal activities such as indiscriminate digging, waste of mineral resources, damage to the ecological environment, illegal occupation of cultivated land, forest land, and nature reserves, as well as illegal mining activities in the name of environmental governance, mine restoration, land consolidation, and engineering construction, have been effectively curbed.
