According to Xinhua News Agency, biodiesel has entered some gas stations in Shanghai. Its label is B5, which means that petrochemical diesel is blended with 2-5% biodiesel oil, and the owners can get 0.3 yuan cheaper per liter.

The entry of biodiesel into gas station is a new measure to recycle waste cooking oil. The biodiesel B5 made from this "gutter oil" is cheap and environmentally friendly. Compared with ordinary diesel oil, it has better lubricity. Catalysis is is an indispensable and important link in the process of gorgeous transformation of gutter oil into biodiesel. Catalyst is the most important part of the catalytic process.

In the synthesis of biodiesel, the traditional inorganic acid and alkali catalysts (such as sulfuric acid, tetrabutyl titanate, solid acid catalysts, etc.) are facing the problems of strong corrosiveness, non-renewable and easy to cause saponification reaction, which violate the original environmental protection intention of biodiesel. Tungsten can be used to find catalysts that will not produce these negative effects. In esterification reaction, tungsten heteropoly acid is the most effective substitute for traditional acid catalysts. Among them, phosphotungstic acid and silicotungstic acid are the most widely used catalysts.

It is known that tungsten heteropoly acid can replace traditional catalysts in petrochemical field. Its catalytic activity is 100-1000 times that of inorganic acid. It can carry out catalytic reaction under very mild conditions and is not easy to produce side reactions. As acid catalysts, tungsten heteropoly acids can catalyze many reactions, such as esterification, acetic acid exchange reaction, nitration reaction, hydrocarbon hydration reaction, dealkylation reaction, etherification reaction of epoxides and so on. Almost most most chemical products requiring catalysts in petrochemical industry can use tungsten heteropoly acids instead of traditional inorganic acids. The most important thing is that tungsten catalysts are non-toxic, harmless, clean and environmentally friendly.
