Wire cut molybdenum wire

The wire cut molybdenum wire is a molybdenum product mainly made of refractory metal molybdenum (Mo). It is a thin wire made by forging and drawing molybdenum bars, and serves as a cutting wire for wire cutting machines. Its English name is "wire cut molybdenum wire", and its diameter generally ranges from 0.12 to 0.20 mm.

In terms of physical and chemical properties, the wire cut molybdenum wire is a black product as thin as a hair and has the basic characteristics of metallic molybdenum, mainly manifested as high melting point, high density, high hardness, low resistivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and heat resistance. However, with the development of science and technology, pure molybdenum wire is increasingly unable to meet future demands.

Therefore, in order to further improve the overall performance of the wire cut molybdenum wire, some solid solution metal elements such as cobalt, tungsten, nickel, magnesium, hafnium, rhenium, etc. are often added to the pure molybdenum wire, which can further enhance the strength of the molybdenum wire and improve its processing performance. In addition, an appropriate amount of rare earth oxides such as lanthanum oxide, cerium oxide, neodymium oxide, etc. can be added to the pure molybdenum wire. Since rare earth oxides can refine the grain and strengthen the fibrous structure, they can further improve the strength, high-temperature resistance and wear resistance of the molybdenum wire.

In terms of the production process, the wire cut molybdenum wire can be manufactured by the solid-liquid doping method. The main steps are as follows: First, prepare the raw materials, including silicon dioxide, liquid solid solution metal compounds and liquid rare earth oxides. Then add the liquid solid solution metal compounds to the solid molybdenum dioxide, and then add the liquid rare earth oxides. Finally, reduce with hydrogen to obtain mixed molybdenum powder. After that, perform isostatic pressing, sintering, rolling, rotary hammering, hot wire drawing, annealing and cold wire drawing on the mixed molybdenum powder to obtain the desired product.

In terms of its applications, the wire cut molybdenum wire is widely used as an electrode material in high-speed wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) and medium-speed wire EDM, and can cut a variety of high-hardness and brittle materials.
