Tungsten Alloy Warhead Pushes R& D of Loitering Missile

The new concept of ammunition is one type of organic combined products from UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) technology and ammunition technology, which has strike, correspondent, target, monitor and other air alert functions.

The loitering missile is quite time-sensitive in the wartime, especially shows its significant functions while using for the airports, ports and aircraft carrier battle groups. Also it could be used for the future surface-to-air missile, which would become an important trend in the field of ammunition.

It reported that China’s first contact of the loitering missile could original back to the study on Russian 300 mm caliber loitering missile during 1990s. Now China has a signification progress on the construction of current Chinese army. The C4ISR system expand the depth and breadth of the loitering missile study, so as to move forward the digital army and tactical Internet, which is the a solid foundation for loitering missile development and application.

China has developed a type of attacked loitering missile --WS-43, which was launched by homemade rockets with a range of 60 kilometers. The loitering missile used tungsten alloy warhead could be time-sensitive targeted, also could be located the target exactly and pass the relevant information back to the command post.

Due to the high density, high strength, high hardness, high temperature, high pressure resistance and good processing properties of tungsten alloy, tungsten alloy warhead can greatly enhance targeting accuracy for loitering missile. Meanwhile, tungsten alloy is environmental and non-toxic, which is also well-known as the green bullet in military missile research and development field.
