Cesium Tungstate Applied for Transparent Glass Coating

Cesium tungstate, or cesium tungsten bronze, or cesium tungsten oxide, with the formula of Cs0.33WO3, is mainly used for preparing transparent glass coating, which shields heat with high near-infrared absorption performance. According to the experts, the Cs0.33WO3 heat insulation coating can effectively depress solar heat gain and air-conditioning energy consumption of buildings, because of its highly selective near infrared (NIR) absorbing ability.

However, the absorbed solar energy may overheat the window glasses due to the high photothermal conversion efficiency of thermal insulation coating of cesium tungsten oxide, discounting its transparent heat insulating performance. To solve this problem, the experts design a new energy-efficient composite window by integrating near infrared shielding Cs0.33WO3 with phase change materials (PCMs, paraffin wax). It is believed that the composite window will improve human comfort and energy efficiency of buildings locating in areas with high day–night or summer–winter temperature fluctuations.
