Molybdenum market update on September 11, 2025

Domestic molybdenum prices are exhibiting an overall downward trend, with molybdenum concentrate price decreasing by approximately 10 yuan per ton-unit, ferromolybdenum price by approximately 1,000 yuan per ton, and molybdenum oxide price by approximately 10 yuan per ton-unit.

Despite this, market demand has not shown significant growth, primarily due to the current relatively high molybdenum prices and the fact that some downstream enterprises have completed their phased procurement.

Since mid-April this year, molybdenum concentrate prices have increased by approximately 1,320 yuan per ton-unit, a rise of 40.62%; ferromolybdenum prices have increased by approximately 84,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 40.38%; molybdenum oxide prices have increased by approximately 1,290 yuan per ton-unit, a rise of 38.28%; sodium molybdate prices have increased by approximately 52,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 33.77%; ammonium tetramolybdate prices have increased by approximately 63,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 29.72%; ammonium heptamolybdate prices have increased by approximately 63,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 29.17%; molybdenum powder prices have increased by approximately 152 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 38.19%; and molybdenum bar prices have increased by approximately 90 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 20.69%. This indicates that molybdenum product prices have experienced a prolonged and significant upward trend, so the recent continuous slight decline in prices is considered a normal adjustment process.

It is understood that recent frequent high-temperature rainfall has, to some extent, constrained the capacity release of molybdenum production enterprises. The Central Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow rainstorm warning at 06:00 on September 11: it is expected that from 08:00 on September 11 to 08:00 on September 12, parts of Henan, southern Shandong, central and northern Anhui, northern Jiangsu, central Hubei, southern Shaanxi, and central and southern Sichuan Basin will experience heavy to torrential rain, with some areas in eastern and southern Henan, southern Shandong, northern Anhui, northern Jiangsu, and southern Sichuan Basin seeing heavy rainstorms.

In terms of news, according to price monitoring data from the Jiangxi steel market and Fuzhou Trade Plaza steel market, in August, the sales prices of the 44 monitored steel varieties showed 39 increases, 0 decreases, and 5 remained stable month-on-month. The average sales prices of wire rod (high wire 6.5, HPB300 and high wire 8, HPB300) were 3,627.50 yuan per ton and 3,485.00 yuan per ton, respectively, with slight increases of 2.18% and 1.37% month-on-month, and year-on-year increases of 3.56% and a slight rise of 0.93%, respectively. The average sales price of rebar (φ12mm HRB400E) was 3,358.75 yuan per ton, with a slight increase of 1.35% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 4.59%.
