According to Fujian Daily, Zijin Mining recently received a resource reserve evaluation approval certificate from the Fujian Provincial Natural Resources Evaluation Center for its "Zijinshan Mine Northeast Ore Section Copper Exploration Report." This copper mine, identified as the largest porphyry copper-molybdenum deposit discovered in Fujian in nearly 20 years, has a cumulative ore volume of 340 million tons, with 1.33 million tons of copper metal resources and 90,000 tons of molybdenum metal resources.
Within the Zijinshan Mine exploration area, centered around the Zijinshan gold-copper mine, the region is pided into the Northeast Ore Section and the Southwest Ore Section. The Northeast Ore Section copper mine comprises deposits such as Luoboling, Jin Tong Lake, and Wuzi Qilong. Following multiple rounds of multi-stage exploration, particularly since Zijin Mining launched a new round of prospecting at Zijinshan in late 2021, significant new results have been achieved.
Leveraging systematic compilation of historical data and secondary development, the Zijinshan prospecting team innovatively employed short-wave infrared spectroscopy, high-precision magnetic surveys, and deep-penetrating geochemical exploration techniques. These efforts, validated through drilling, have led to new progress and the successful completion of this evaluation. The Northeast Ore Section copper mine has thus emerged as Fujian’s largest porphyry copper-molybdenum resource base, providing robust support for the resource succession and sustainable development of the Zijinshan gold-copper mine. It also lays a foundation for the integrated development and utilization of deposits in the Luoboling area and surrounding sites.
Additionally, the Southwest Ore Section has preliminarily identified a hydrothermal mineralization center, which is currently under exploration and verification.
The Northeast Ore Section copper exploration report, reviewed and approved by the Fujian Provincial Natural Resources Evaluation Center on December 26 of last year, marks the first exploration technical report in the province compiled using geostatistical methods, setting a new example for future mineral resource reserve evaluations.
In 2021, the national government launched a new round of breakthrough prospecting strategic actions, and Zijin Mining swiftly aligned with this initiative, intensifying domestic resource investment. Supported by economic geology theories and advanced international exploration technologies, the company achieved significant prospecting breakthroughs. In 2024, its Julong Copper Mine in Tibet and Tongshan Copper Mine in Heilongjiang together added 18.377 million tons of copper metal resources to the national reserves, contributing the majority of the copper resource increment under the national breakthrough prospecting action.
