Tightened Supply Pushes up APT, Tungsten Concentrate Prices in China

China’s tungsten concentrate prices continue to strengthen amid tight supply from mining companies. The price increases for the raw material have also triggered higher offers for ammonium paratungstate (APT) but downstream tungsten powder and alloy consumers are resisting them amid weak economic conditions, resulting in a stalemate.

The transactions are difficult to be concluded due to a lack of liquidity in the tungsten concentrate market. The APT market remains low operating rate. Smelting factories are not willing to sell their products at low prices considering high production costs. Price of $207.7/mtu for APT is not acceptable for downstream buyers.
