Rare Earth Plates of BaoTou Steel Leap to Body Manufacturing

Rare earth plates of Inner Mongolia BaoTou Steel Union Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Baotou Steel or the company) take a major leap from component supply to body manufacturing. After more than 3 months of hard work, the surface FD grade steel plate produced by the company began to be used in the "body-in-white" manufacturing of Chery Automobile. The trial results show that the rare earth plates are completely qualified.

BaoTou Steel is an iron and steel state-owned enterprise in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, China. It has a large production base of iron and steel and the largest scientific research and production base of rare earths in China. It smelts and processes ferrous metal products. The company produces and sells steel plates, seamless metal tubes, heavy tubes, square steel, wire rods, steel pipes, steel scraps, and other related products as well as provides importing and exporting services.

Body in white refers to the stage in the automobile manufacturing in which a car body's components have been joined together, using one or a combination of different techniques: welding, riveting, clinching, bonding, laser brazing, etc. At present, Ordos base of Chery Automobile has produced 25 "body-in-white" vehicles from BaoTou Steel, marking a major leap in Baotou's automotive steel products from component supply to body manufacturing.

In the past 3 years, Automotive steel of the company has been paralleling researching, producing, and selling altogether, continuously moved towards high-end and high added value. The company possesses the world's advanced sheet production line, and strong international technology and R&D support, strict quality control system, as well as efficient sales and service system, for which lies a strong foundation for the development of automotive steel of the company.

The company actively play a leading role and comprehensively promote the advantages of the production line equipment and products. From 2017 to 2019, auto steel sales of the company have increased year by year, and have been shortlisted as China FAW Group Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Automobile, Chery, BYD and other domestic well-known manufacturers.

At present, BaoTou Steel has signed a contract for the trial of rare earth plates for 700 Chery vehicles. The tests have been fully launched, laying a foundation for achieving the goal of covering Chery Automobile's Ordos base supply. At the same time, the company has exerted the demonstration effect of the "body-in-white" cooperation with Chery and is in an orderly manner to promote the certification of Changan Automobile, Geely Automobile, and Great Wall Motors.
