The Supply of Tungsten Concentrates Expects to Be Tight in China

Analysis of latest tungsten market from Chinatungsten Online

A new round of resumption of work comes in China this week, with a increase in vehicles and people on Monday. However, the industry insiders are still worried about the supply of raw materials, especially tungsten concentrates.

On the one hand, it is difficult for worker at the production line to return to work and the rising cost of mining companies affects the operating rate. On the other hand, although the logistics has announced full resumption of work last week, the epidemic has the impact of the service.

As of February 16, of the 68 members of the China Tungsten Industry Association, 57% have resumed production and 43% have not. The main reason for not resuming production is that they have not been approved by the local government, and a small number of enterprises have resumed production but are affected by the difficulties in returning of employees. Some enterprises are expected to start work after the 20th, and some companies have not yet made clear their expectations, according to data from the China Tungsten Industry Association.

Ganzhou Tungsten Association released its average tungsten forecast prices for February: black tungsten concentrate price was $13,235.3/t, up $514.7/t from last month; ammonium paratungstate(APT) price was $231.8/mtu, up $7.5/mtu from last month; medium particle tungsten powder price was $32.9/kg, up $1.5/kg.

Zhangyuan Tungsten's offers for this month: black tungsten concentrate (WO3≥55%) was quoted at $13,235.3/t and scheelite concentrate  (WO3≥55%) was quoted at $13,014.7/t, both up $367.6/t from January; APT was quoted at $231.8/mtu.
