Scott Mitchell Is Through to Quarter-Finals at 2020 BDO World Championship

Scott Mitchell and David Evans are both through to the Quarter-Finals at the 2020 BDO World Championship to end the evening session at the Indigo at the O2.

Mitchell breezed past Michael Unterbuchner in a 4-0 win in a match which saw the German have plenty of chances; but he couldn’t convert and as a result ‘Scotty Dog’ claimed a brilliant win.

He breezed through the first set; from there punished missed darts at double from Unterbuchner in the remaining three sets which all went to a deciding leg in a match that if ‘T-Rex’ would have got going in could have been a whole different story.

This included him having three darts for the set allowing Mitchell going 3-0 up; the fourth set proved even more tight as Unterbuchner went 2-0 up but Mitchell replied with a shanghai 120 finish and this created a final leg shootout which meant that he hit a 57 checkout to claim the tie.

Evans also made it through but not as simply as Mitchell potentially as he nearly squandered a 3-0 lead; when he looked to be heading towards the Quarter-Finals.

Another high quality tie against Richard Veenstra saw the Manchester ace survive a late comeback to edge past the Dutchman; as his debut run continues.

Evans began the tie by averaging 104 to take the first set; after previously not looking at his best in his first round encounter, he was taking some of his game which he has shown at times on the PDC Tour onto the Indigo stage.

This was further underlined as he took out 124 for the second set and this was all with Veenstra himself averaging 94. He made it three nil soon after; he seemed to be easing towards the Quarter-Finals.

Veenstra kept going though and his average remained around the 93 mark as he claimed the requisite two sets to throw to tie back wide open; with Evans starting to show nerves.

These nerves were rendered irrelevant though as he showed some steel to stop the comeback and claim the victory; with a 56 checkout as ‘Stretch’ continues to impress.
