Magnificent 70 Years of "Rare Earth Capital" - Baotou: Making Outstanding Contributions to National Defense Construction

The "Rare Earth Capital" Baotou – is the New China's first tank, first anti-aircraft gun, first atomic bomb, the hydrogen bomb, and nuclear fuel manufacturing place, and one-third of domestic high-speed rails are provided here. On February 23, 1950, the People's Government of Baotou City was established. During the "First Five-Year Plan" period, six of the country's 156 key projects were located in this city, which was a key industrial city with the national layout. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago, the city has made outstanding contributions to the national industrial revitalization and national defense construction. As early as 1984, it was approved by the State Council as one of the 13 largest cities in the country.

In 2018, the regional GDP and fiscal revenue increased by 1,628 times and 2,426 times compared with 1952. According to the China Urban Competitiveness Report released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2017, the city ranks 76th among the 289 cities with comprehensive economic competitiveness.

The urban and rural areas have taken on a new look. For a long time, Baotou, the “Rare Earth Capital”, realizing a built-up area from frontier town to 322 square kilometers and 84% of urbanization rate and won the title of "National Civilized City" for five consecutive years.
