Sisson Tungsten-Molybdenum Project Received Key Federal Authorization

Northcliff Resources Ltd. has announced its Sisson Tungsten-Molybdenum Project planned for central New Brunswick has taken a major step forward, receiving a final key federal authorization for the launch of the mine.

Northcliff said in a July 10 release the Metal and Diamond Effluent Regulation Schedule 2 amendment (MDMER) authorization process is now successfully completed.

The process included consultation with First Nations and the public, led by federal agencies Environment Canada and Climate Change and Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Prior to the MDMER, the Sisson Project received Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approvals from the provincial and federal governments in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

A Co-operation Agreement between Woodstock First Nation and Sisson Partnership is in place and the Province of New Brunswick has signed an Accommodation Agreement with the six Maliseet First Nations of the province.

Northcliff said the Sisson Project would develop a “world-class” deposit of tungsten and molybdenum 60 kilometres northwest of Fredericton.

Works will include of open pit tungsten and molybdenum mine, an ore processing facility, mine waste storage areas, a new transmission line, a water treatment plant and ancillary buildings including offices, a laboratory and a warehouse.

The Sisson site is already served by local and regional infrastructure including highways, roads, railways, deep sea ports and power lines.

Tungsten is used in such consumer products such as cars, cellular phones, flat screen televisions and computers. Products that incorporate molybdenum include stainless steel pots and pans, automotive grease, electronic devices and medical scalpels.

“Completion of the MDMER amendment represents an important milestone toward project development,” said Northcliff president and CEO Chris Zahovskis in the statement.

The release said Northcliff has been working on engineering designs and soliciting offtake interest for the mine products as well as working through provincial EIA conditions, some of which are required to be complied with prior to the start of construction and others in the operation phase.
