Europe Ferro Tungsten Prices Hit 8-month High on Expected Tight Supply

Analysis of latest tungsten market from Chinatungsten Online

Ganzhou Tungsten Association (GTA) has increased its tungsten price forecasts for March in response to the recent rebound in prices, while raising its concerns of a supply shortage because most producers have not yet resumed operations since the Lunar New Year holiday in February.

The ferro-tungsten market in Europe has climbed to its highest level since August 2018, with further increases in sight amid tightening availability for prompt material.

Ferro tungsten prices, in-warehouse Rotterdam, was assessed at $35-36 per kg on Wednesday March 6, unchanged from the previous assessment, when prices had climbed to that level from $33-34 per kg. Prices started to move up last month after a period of inactivity amid tightening material availability. Most sellers in Europe have reported to be sold out for prompt material with the first deliveries due to arrive next month while consumers are back in the spot market looking for larger tonnages.
