Super-Large Tungsten-Molybdenum Deposit Discovered in Luanchuan

A super-large tungsten-molybdenum deposit discovered in Luanchuan to lead the city to become the "molybdenum capital of the world". According to the Henan Daily, on December 23, the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration of Henan province reported that after nearly 10 years survey, a new ultra-large tungsten-molybdenum deposit was discovered in Luanchuan, Luoyang, with 3.170 million tons of molybdenum, 396,600 tons of tungsten, 361,600 tons of lead, 2.629 million tons of zinc, 2.71 tons of copper, and 39.182 tons of silver, which is equivalent to 39 newly discovered large-scale molybdenum ore, 14 large tungsten ore, and 5 large lead-zinc mine.

The Geological Survey of Mo-Pb-Zn deposit at Lengshui-Chitudian in Luanchuan, Henan province is a major package survey project deployed by the Henan Provincial Department of Natural Resources in 2011. The total area is 220 square kilometers within the territory. According to the current price of molybdenum and tungsten, the potential value of the new molybdenum and tungsten added to the project is about RMB 500 billion.

Up to now, Luanchuan, the molybdenum capital of China, has submitted a total of 6.131 million tons of molybdenum reserves, 13.828 million tons of tungsten, 99.18 million tons of lead, 3.378 million tons of zinc, 11.2083 tons of silver, and 82,900 tons of copper. After the submission of this result, the county is expected to change from "The Molybdenum Capital of China" to "The Molybdenum Capital of the world". The tungsten-molybdenum deposit would exceed the Chilean Spence copper and molybdenum ore (2.57 million tons), becoming the largest Molybdenum deposit in the world.

In the early years, from August 1980 to October 1985, the first investigation team of Henan province submitted detailed exploration reports in the mining areas of Nanning Lake, Sandaozhuang, and Shangfanggou to the Provincial Reserve Committee. By 1988, the reserves of the molybdenum metal in the three areas is 2.06 million tons in total.

Luanchuan was crowned "China Molybdenum Capital" in March 2006 as the huge tungsten-molybdenum deposit. By the end of 2015, there had been 67 local molybdenum dressing companies, with a mining scale of 120,000 tons, a daily beneficiation scale of 147,550 tons, and an annual output of 10,326 tons of molybdenum fines.

China is one of the richest countries in molybdenum resources around the world, and currently owns the world's highest proven molybdenum reserves. According to data released by the U.S. Geological Survey in 2018, the global molybdenum resource reserves are about 17 million tons, of which nearly half are distributed in China. Domestic production of molybdenum concentrate is mainly distributed in Henan, Shaanxi, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, and other regions. Among them, Henan accounted for 36% of the country's total output.
