Application of Tungsten Grinders in Welding

Tungsten grinders usually hold powerful motors and work by using grinding wheels to remove material from metal workpieces. This equipment could be used for grinding, slicing, polishing as well as welding. Since tungsten rod grinders are more robust than other types of grinders, they are also commonly used in the automotive sector.

A good tungsten welding electrode is critical to a mechanically welded weld with tungsten rods. Grinding the tungsten electrode using an electrode grinder, grinder or other method is a key factor in arc initiation, weld penetration, arc shape and electrode life.

Choosing the right type and quality tungsten electrode is not the only factor that affects the appearance of the weld. Grinding and sharpening the tungsten electrode also plays a major part in having an excellent welding bead.

When using a grinder to process various materials, the waste sand may get stuck on the tungsten rod during the operation. Abrasives made of chemicals can be used. Using chemical tungsten abrasives is compatible with all varieties of tungsten electrodes. When using a tungsten electrode, first heat it up and then dip it into the entire powdered chemical.

Among the various grinders, the dry tungsten rod grinder is by far the better tungsten grinder, it is easy to move, simple to use, and helps to reduce the number of repetitions required for grinding. However, due to the risk of exposure to abrasive powders, proper local ventilation or respiratory protection must always be worn when working with dry grinders.

Wet tungsten grinders are wet tungsten machines that use a "closed process" where the operator is not at risk of being exposed to the grinding powder. Wet grinders are available with grinding angles ranging from 15 to 180 degrees. In most cases, their grinding wheels are more durable and cause less damage to the tungsten electrode, mainly during the heating process. Wet tungsten sharpeners are usually simple and effective in removing particles as well as the sharpening solution.
