How to Prepare Tungsten Disulfide/Titanium Silicide Composite Catalyst?

Tungsten disulfide/titanium silicide composite catalyst has broad application prospects in water-splitting for hydrogen production. It can be prepared by raw materials of ammonium tetrathiotungstate and titanium silicide. And ultrasonic-electrodepositing method and calcination method are applied in the preparation process.

The preparation process of tungsten disulfide/titanium silicide composite catalyst involves the following steps:

Step One: The preparation of reagents.

Titanium silicide, argon and other reagents are prepared. And titanium silicide is ground by planetary ball mill at the rotating speed of 210r/min.

Step Two: The preparation of ammonium tetrathiotungstate.

5 g ammonium tungstate is dispersed in 50 mL 6M ammonia aqueous solution. Then hydrogen sulfide is added to the aqueous solution. The mixture is heated for 4 hours at 60°C. When it is cooled to room temperature and put in a refrigerator at 5°C for one night, The orange ammonium tetrathiotungstate crystal can be prepared. The crystal is filtered and washed with isopropanol three times. Then it is dried in vacuum at 60°C.

Step Three: Ultrasonic deposition.

Ammonium tetrathiotungstate aqueous solution and ground titanium silicide are mixed and stirred in ultrasonic machine for 5 hours. Then the mixture is dried under vacuum at 60°C to prepare (NH4)2WS4/TiSi2 precursor.

Step Four: Calcination.

The obtained precursor is calcined at different temperatures for 2 hours in argon atmosphere and the temperature ranges from 200°C to 500°C, so as to prepare composite of tungsten disulfide and titanium silicide. And the content of tungsten disulfide is controlled by adjusting the weight ratio of (NH4) 2WS4 and titanium silicide.

Tungsten disulfide/titanium silicide composite catalyst can be prepared by ammonium tetrathiotungstate and titanium silicide, using ultrasonic-electrodepositing method as well as calcination method. At a certain temperature, calcination is beneficial to the formation of heterojunction between titanium silicide and tungsten disulfide. And prepared composite is an efficient photocatalyst that widely used in water-splitting for hydrogen production.
