Technological Evolution of Rare Earth Tungsten Electrode Technological Evolution

Tungsten is a kind of high melting point metal with melting point of 3410 ℃, so it becomes a special process to make it into regular shape. The addition of rare earth elements to tungsten can effectively improve the performance of materials, but the difficulty of forming and processing is obviously increased. Moreover, the preparation of rare earth tungsten electrodes from rare earth tungsten slabs still needs a long process.

In order to improve the qualified rate and performance of rare earth tungsten electrode products and reduce the cost of production, some enterprises have improved the traditional process, including:

1.Fill the rare earth tungsten powder material with plastic sleeve and seal it.

A.First, the polyvinyl chloride resin, calcium stearate and calcium carbonate are proportioned and mixed in a set proportion. Then, dibutyl phthalate is added to mix evenly until no bubbles occur, and the plastic mixture slurry is obtained.

B.Then, the metal core is heated to about 180 degrees, and then immersed in the slurry. A slurry film is bonded on the metal core. The thickness of the bonding die is the thickness of the plastic sleeve.

C.The bonded slurry film and the metal core are lifted into the oven together and heated to 180 degrees for plasticizing treatment.

D.After plasticizing, the plastic sleeve and the metal core are put into the cold water to quench rapidly. After the plastic sleeve is removed from the metal core, the plastic sleeve can be obtained.

2.Put the sealed plastic sleeve into the isostatic press.

3.The pressure of the isostatic press is raised to the forming pressure, and the preset holding time enables the rare earth tungsten powder in the plastic sleeve to be formed.

4.Remove and open the plastic sleeve to obtain rare earth tungsten billet. Plastic sleeves can also be reused to further save manufacturing costs.

In summary, the use of isostatic press instead of the existing technology of steel die pressing, so that the compact density is equal everywhere, and the compact strength is high, greatly improving the pass rate of products. The blanking process in rotary forging has been cancelled, which greatly reduces the technical requirements for workers, improves the yield and qualified rate of products, and reduces the production cost.
